Federation News
By W. V. Roy.
On Friday, May 27th Huron County t
Federation of Agriculture were
host to representatives of many
nations when they visited the Clinton
Spring Pair, as guests of the Farm
organization, Among some of the
nation represented were Great.
Britain, Ireland, 'United States, Aus-
tralia, New Zealand, France, Bel-
gium, Luxumberg, The Netherlands,
Norway, Sweden, Finland, India.
Ohina, Burma, Denmark, Southern
Rodesia. Kenya, Hungary, Western
Germany and Jamaica, Never be-
fore and possibly never again will
so many countries be represented
at the Clinton Pair.
An important County Directors'
meeting was held on Monday even-
ing, May 23, with every towusitip
represented except Turnberry.
The National Film Board circuit
came up for discussion and the
directors decided to try and continue
under the present set-up, A cofn-
mtttee was named consisting of the
President and Vice -Presidents to
study the situation.
The following resolution was pre,
seated to the board of directors
from the Huron Presbytery Lay '
men's Association. The resolution
was endorsed, but some of the
members wondered why only farm-
er's were mentioned.
Whereas the practice of conduct-
ing farm operations on Sunday, such
as tilling soil, harvesting, combining,
etc., is becoming prevalent in this
Presbytery of Huron. Be it resolved
that we, the Lay Association of
Huron Presbytery of the united
Church of Canada, call aeon all
Christian people throughout the
Presbytery to refrain from, and not
in any countenance, such labour
on the Sabbath.
Oar pioneer forefathers could sow
their fields and could cut their
crops with the scythe and cradles
and harvest them without resorting
to Sunday labour, Surely we, inthis
highly mechanized age, with all our
equipment, could do so without
desecrating the Day.
We are in iminent danger of
losing the heritage of our Christian
Sabbath, that our forefathers have
passed down to us, A day spent in
rest and quietness, and worship, is
surely what this age needs in these
feverish times, We In this day
greatly need to learnthat man does
not live by bread alone.
