hast sett "Rev. Lane stated thtat to
sone life means a continual round of
pleasure, to others, life is lived only i
through the physical senses. But we
must have a spiritual experience.
We begin to live only as we know
God, through Jesus Christ, whom
He sent into the world.
Mr. Lane spoke at length on know-
ledge, love and good -will. (the, will
to do good).
Graeme A[cDonald was the soloist,
and sang the well known solo,
"The Lost Chord,"
Mr. Louis D. Thompson presided
again at the organ, after a month's

ial meeting Tuesday night accepted
its share cf two per cent of the
• estimated cost of the proposed new
wing of Wingham General Hospital.
A resultant rise oc two mills ap-
peered when the new tax rate was
set.
A comparison of the years 1952
(first listed) and 1953 as follows;
County rate, 9 mills, 10 mills; vil-
lage rate, 19.8, 17; public school, 14,
15; Wingham District High School,
5.2, 7; water works 8, 7; hydrant
rentals), 4, 4; hospital building, 2;
total, 60 mills, 62 mills.

HAS GARDEN PARTY 1 SPLENDIDLY SUPPORTED
A ,successful garden party was
staged on the Lawn at the home of
Mr. and Mrs, David Basting} on
Wednesday Waft, sponsored by the
Ladle's Auxiliary to the Canadian
Legion. Tables were set on one sec-
tion of the lawn and a generuos sup-
per was 'served, During the interval
between the supper and the program,
the Brussels Legion Pipe Band. in
charge of Pi3e-Major George Elliott,
entertained with many selections;
and they also contributed several
other numbers during the evening,
.Mrs, Wm, Leach introduced the
President of the auxiliary, Mrs. David
Hastings, who welcomed the gather-
ing to their home and thanked
the helpers and :those participating
in the program. Robert Cunningham
vas chairman, and contributed two
NO1oe with Donald' Dunbar as accom-
panist. The program also included
solos by Joan Johnson, accompanied ;
by Doris .Tohnson who also played a
piano solo; Scotch solos, David
Hastings; solos, Sdott Pawson, with 1
guitar accompaniment by Peter Mc-
Qnarrie: duet, Mrs. Mac Stephenson
and Fr'nd with guitar accompani-
ment; violin solo, Scott Pawson. ac-
companied by Peter McQnarrie. At

Cousins showed a colored movie
of the parade and floats in the Cor-
nrnation day celebration. Community
singing: to the 'accompaniment of
Donald Dunbar, was enjoyed .under
