Letters from Major McCrimmon and Major Jewitt REV. 0>t0, JEWITT, Springfield, Ont, DEAR $IR : — Your8011, Major Jewitt, before leaving for the front, asked me to drop you a line and let you knew that he had gone, He and six other officers left us on Saturday morning, July 1st, for the 1st Batta- lion in France. We were all very sorry to have them leave us, amt yet we could not but congratulate and rejoice with them in the fact that they were about to realize their am- bitions and meet the enemy face to face, I was personally very sorry to lose Major Jewitt's services to Lhe bat- talion. His place here will be very hard to fill, I•Ie was looked on by all as one of our very best officer's and that is slaying 01117te to lot, for we have had a lot of very fine fellows among the officers of the 33rd Batt. But in this case our loss is the 1st. Battalion's gain. We have sent in all about 12, or 14 officers to that'init. I have always admired Major Jewitt's qualities as an officer, but never admired them more than I did when he came into the of- fice abort a week ego and handed in his applicatiou to revert to the rank of captain so that he might the sooner get to the front.
