K. Jantes„ of Tornberry, had the
misfortune to lose .a valuable colt
which he recently purchased in Galt
for $250. It was sick for about three
days and died of pneumonia.
Recently there have been strangers
coming to town begging and using
the plea that all they had was lost
either by tire Or because of the war.
The other day a woman claiming to
be from London told a tale of woe
which was followed by a flow of tears,
but she only wanted money, refining
offered food and wotk. When her
object was found out, she left hurried-
ly on one of the trains out of town.
Saturday evening MIT. William
Sneath sent a had named Willie
Hinchcliffe to a local store for some
canned fish for tea. The till MIA
opened in the ordinary way and 8030 -
ed after being warmed up. Shot tly
afterwards both the woman and the
boy became dizzy and very sick from
the effects. They took some stomach
medicine which gave them relief.
They are no worse for the experience,
but state that canned goods will be
used no more in that house. Slight
ptomaine poisoning was suspeoted.

Ames,- daughter of Joseph and Mrs.
Ames, Sed Con., who has been at-
tending school at Brussels, had the
misfortune to break otwenf her ankles
Friday of last week while 01in:thing
over a fence going to school rerun the
home of Wrm Bryans, her grand-
fathet where she WEB boarding. She
is getting along nicety but the un-
fortunate accident will keep her out
of school for a month or so, which will
be a disappointment to bliss Gertrude.
As she is ail apt pupil she will be able
to recover the time lost all eight. Her
many friends regret the accident and
wish her a speedy recovery. She is
still at the home of Mn'. 13ryans, 4th
line Morris township where ow is re-
ceiving the best attention,
MYSTERY EVENING.- The social
vening held at Onion church, under
the auspices of the 'Ladies' Aid, last
Friday night, tostitted very kettle-
factorily. There Was eonte rere fun
over the bill of fare and following the
supper Rev, Mr, McKelvey took the
chair and a choice program:was pre-

Contingent, were given a, rousing
send-off Monday evening when they
returned to London. A procession
headed by the Citizens' Band and
made up of No, 3 Company Thirty -
Third Regiment, the Collegiate
Cadets, the Home Guard and autos
paraded clown Main street which was
lined with hundreds of cheering citi-
zens. Short addresses were made by
Mayor Ament, Col. Wilson, and oth-
ers, after which the Mayor peeseuted
each of the volunteets with wrist
watches, the gift of the town and also
with useful articles from the Red
Cross. They were also given their
share of the money collected here for
the soldiets and the remainder will be
sent to the men now at the front.
