sun of Robert Cleland of the 4th con.
of Elma. Roy who is one of the en-
terprising young men of the town-
ship, has been a student at the Agri-
cultural College at Guelph and had
obtained from one of the Professors a
ditching machine with which he was
prepared to do great work ; digging
as mach as fixty to seventy rods per
day. In some way his right hand
caught in the machine and the index
and little fingers of the tight hand
were taken off near to the hated and a
severe flesh wound made on the back
of the hand and the thumb broken.
As soon as possible medical aid woe
secured and the injuries received skil-
led attention. It is feared that .some
dirt has been ground into the wounds

By the death of Robert Oliver sr.,
which took place at his ]ate residence,
Trowbridge, on Sunday, 15th inst.,
Trowbridge lost one of its early set-
tlers and most highly respected citi-
zens, The deceased was In his 80th
year and lead been in failing .health
for some time past. The late Ale.
Oliver WAS born in Donegal, Ireland,
in 1888, Coming to Canada over fifty
years ago he located at Hamilton,
where he remained for at shout time.
He then moved to Trowbridge, where
lie started it tannery and boot and
shoe business. which he sucoessfltlly
conducted until his business was des-
troyed by fire. Ile then turned "'tris

NMAILIY KILLED BY BIG BOAR.—
An Englishman working for a Gode-
rich Township (armee named McNeil,
was badly bitten by a boar at the
Goderich Iudnstrial Exhibition. He
went in the pen to drive the boar out
for judging and the animal fiercely
attacked him, biting quite a large
piece out of his leg. Had it not been
for the assistance rendered him im-
mediately by M. J. Farr, who heard
his cries he would have been torn to
pieces hi a few minutes. Farr drag-
ged hire out of the pen, and he was
taken to the Alexandra Marine Hospi-
tal.

Justice Mulock opened the Fall sitting
of the High Court of Justice on Mon-
day afternoon of last week, but the
docket contained only two cases and
was soon disposed of as follows :—

Perth Bounty
A young Huron County man who
appeared in court on Saturday for run-
ning et fraud game at the Mitchell
Fair recently, was fined $5 and order-
ed to aY costs amounting to $27.90.
A true case of fraud was made Ont a-
gainst the youth. His widowed
mother was iu court with him.
A very serious runaway took place
on Saturday afternoon when Geo.
and Mrs. Martin, of concession 10,
EastNissouri, were driving into St.
Alarys with a one horse rig and a
consignment of eggs. As they were
coming down Queen street nearing
the market square their horse bolted
at the sight of an auto and ran into a
load of cordwood which was being
teamed by Joe Tait. Be was in the
act of turning offQ ueen street on
Church street North when Martin's
horse and rig struck his load. Mr.
and Mrs. Martin were thrown out
violently to the ground, and their rig
wrecked including the eggs. Mr.
Marlin was bruised about the head
and body. Alts. Martin was more
seriously hurt,h her elbow and wrist
were broken. She was otherwise
badly bruised and shaken 00. She
woe unconscious for three hour's.
