BorR Federal and Provincial Govern- ments have subsidized a line of railway to James Bay is the hope that it will prove one of the increased outlets to the harvests of the West. Some who ought to know affirm that the grants made are altogether Inadequate to the greatness of the work. WE notice Montreal authorities are after the slayers of immature veal and are bringing to task the dealers who are patting upon the market meat forbidden by law owing to its "youthfulness." If an average could be struck between the baby veal and the tougb old beef a happy condition of affairs would be brought to pass. Some idea of the giant icebergs to be met on the Atlantic may be gleaned from a statement of one captain who avers that be saw some of them that would measure 1,700 feet in length and at /east 5o feet above the water line. Not much wonder that greater security should be sought by endeavoring to a- void the menacing bergs by a more Southerly route. HaentroN Board of Trade contem- plate a friendly visit to other cities and towns with the thought of gleaning im- proved methods and new features worth copying. The idea is a good one and should bring practical results. It would save the time and expense of testing features that might be desirable to in- augurate. There's a hint in the above for Brussels Council. COUPLED with the arraignment of Dr. Beattie Nesbitt of the defunct Farmers' Bank fame comes the news that the Keely mining property, into which so mauy good dollars of the stockholders money went, bas been abandoned by the mining company on account of its uaproduetive character.
