The Listowel Soldiers' Memorial,
which is to be unveiled Wednesday
at 2 o'clock, realizes a dream fulfilled.
The Women's Patriotic League,
through disappointment and discour-
agement, has carried out its deter-
mination to secure sue1t a monument
to success.
This organization worked enthusi-
astically and untiringly throughout
r anized September
the war. It was o g P
8, 1914, and. from that time until now
it has raised $20,000. When at the
close of the war its bank account was
changed from the deposit to the sav-
Ings, it had $300, This was the nu -
dues of the monument fund, Mrs.
Fred Ellis was elected treasurer at
the organization meeting and retains
that office. It is interesting to re-
member, says Mrs. Ellis, that over
$1,700 was raised by the sale of rags
rubbers and papers.
The monument is to cost $2,900
and $2,000 has already been paid.
When the last payment is made the
Women's Patriotic League will auto-
matically cease to function. This
society is worthy of being, recalled at
this time, because it is inextricably
associated with the soldier boys of
this locality, The Members of this
organiruation worked and knitted and
prayed through all those days of war,
bound together ill a. friendship that
time cannot sever. The names men.
tioned are not Only the names of the
ofllcers but as representing the faith-
ful women who elected them,
The first president was Miss Clay-
ton, .B.A., who gave unstintingly o$
her time and talent, and the second
roster, whose
was the late Mrs..i. J.
memory is lovingly recalled bthose
who knew her. Miss Ella V, Kidd'
was the first efficient secretary, suc-
ceeded by Mrs. W. P, Bennie, who up
to the present retains the omee. The
