pleasant and profitable time Oras spent
last Friday eveni ng in Melville Church,
when a company of about 75, compos-
ed of the members of the 'Pals" class
of Senior Boys, taught by A. A. La-
mont, together with their invents and
several officers of the Sunday, School,
sat down to a sumptuous banquet,
served in the best of style by a number
of theyoung ladies of the congrega-

Army Self -Denial Effort will .commence

the children's home, missionary work,
hospitals and for the general work of
the Army. The Army Is very grateful
to all who contributed last year and
trust they will be well supported this
year.

Mother Passes Away. — Rev. J. P.
McLeod; pastor of Melville church,
Brussels, received: the sad netts 011
Tuesday of the death of his mother, at
her home in Lanigon, Sask. Deceased
was 77 years of age and was a native
of Prince Edward 'island, where she
married her now bereft 'partner In life,
Some 3o years ago the family moved
to Manitoba and took up farm land and
to years ago moved to Lanigon, Sask.
A family of four sons also survive,
three residing at Lanigon and. Rev, Mr.
McLeod in town. The funeral was held
on Thursday and burial was made in
the West The late Mrs. McLeod has
been ailing for over a year. The sym-
pathy of the -community goes to Mr.
McLeod • in the loss of his mother.
Kineardin Papers Join Together.-
The Kincardine Reporter of ,last week
slakes the following referen e

coining amalgamation of the two pap-
ers in that town: -This wi11 be the
last issue of she Kincardine Reporter
as a paper of partisan views: The high
cost of publishing has invade it im-
possible for two papers to live in a
town the size of Kincardine. The •pro-
prietor of the Reporter, Mr. J. J. Hun-
ter, and the proprietor of (the Review,
Col. H. Clark, got together and discus-
sed the situation. The (basis of agree-
ment was reached as to.,price of each
plant. Frankly we did not want to
sell out. Neither did 'Col. Clark. The
matter was decided by she toss of a
coin.. The public may view this as a
peculiar method of -setting a business
transadt'olr, but if their money was in-
vested they woud onderstand the situa-
tion. There will Se a living in the
business for one ,paper while the Iwo
split it up' so that neither paper :Quid
make )money. The next issue of the
combined papers will be 'celled the Re-
view , and Reporter- We ,have agreed
to carry out any contracts that Col,
Clark has entered into and also send
the combined paper to any pale up.

Death of William Marahall.— The
Clinton News -Record .of last week le.

On Sunday last the death occurred at
his home (south of ratiway tracks, of
Wm. Marshall, in his 56th year. Mr.
Marshall had not been in the best of
health for some little time and on Sun-
day he was taken very ill and on a doc-

have the sympathy of the cottTmunity.
Mr. Marshall was born in Brussels and
came to Clinton about twenty-nine
years ago. He is survived by his wife-
wbo was,formerly Miss Jane Blake, of
Ashfield, and thtee sons: Chester, of
Windsor, William and: Gordon • at home
and one daughter,,Mrs. Norman Miller

reside in Clinton. The funeral took
place from his late resident Wednes-
day afternoon, the services being con-
ducted by the (Rev, A. A. (Holmes of
Wesley church, with which he was con-

of Clinton and George Marshall en Rip-
ley, D. McLeod, Robt. Freeman and
John Slake. interment was made in
Clinton cemetery. Me. Marshall's sis-
ters, Mrs. Roach of Ripley and Mrs.
Mays of Montreal, and his brother,
George of Ripley were among these

resident of Ingersoll died and marry
flowers were sent to the home of the
bereaved widow. Unfortunately, how-

anying on of the floral tokens mixed

Mrs. M. M. Connor, Dead.—Follow-
ing a Tong illness, Mrs, Martha Maud
Mildred Connor, wife of Rev. William
Connor, of Kirkton, died Monday. She
was born -at Napier, Ont., the daughter
of the late William Clark and .grand-
daughter en the' late Col. tiohn Arth-
urs. For many years Mrs. Connor. -liv-
ed In Toronto, where She was on the
staff of the Dead Letter Office. She
was married to Rev. Mr. Connor about
two years ago. In religion she was an
Anglican, and in Toronto attended St.
Mathew's Church. Besides her hus-
band she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Geo.
Grass and Miss Gertrude (Clark. The
late Mrs. Connor came to Brussels a
bride when her husband was Rector
of St. John's Ohurch. The citizens
regret to hear. °feller death.
Passed Away in Toronto. -Last Fri-
day morning Miss Rebecca J. Laird,
daughter of the late William and Eliza-
beth Laird, of Brussels, (passed sud-
denly away ,at her (home in Toronto.
The body was brought to Brussels
Saturday morning and interment was
made in the family plot at the Brus-
sels Cemetery. Rev. J. P. Mcl-eod
conducted the service and the pall-
bearers were D. 0. (toss, G. R. Weller,
A: Strachan, N. F. Gerry; -d. Hewitt and
A. R. Currie. Deceased was born in
Haysville, Ont., and when a smell child
came with her •paents Ito Ain'layvltle;
afterwards Brussels. Some 4o years
ago deceased went to London where
for 25 years she was matron at the
Asylum, afterward going to the Heal-
ilton Institution and later Ito Mimic°.
Several years ago she retired and lived
heart trouble. Deceased was the eld-
est daughter df th€ late Alexander and
Euphemia Wright, (formerly of the 14th
Con. 'of McKillop and left there 47
years ago and has •resided int Hart dur-
ing all that period with her now be-
reft husband. Deceased is survived by
her •husband, two sone, and one daught-
er, five grandchildren add one.great

Mrs. M. M. Connor, Dead.—Follow-
ing a Tong illness, Mrs, Martha Maud
Mildred Connor, wife of Rev. William
Connor, of Kirkton, died Monday. She
was born -at Napier, Ont., the daughter
of the late William Clark and .grand-
daughter en the' late Col. tiohn Arth-
urs. For many years Mrs. Connor. -liv-
ed In Toronto, where She was on the
staff of the Dead Letter Office. She
was married to Rev. Mr. Connor about
two years ago. In religion she was an
Anglican, and in Toronto attended St.
Mathew's Church. Besides her hus-
band she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Geo.
Grass and Miss Gertrude (Clark. The
late Mrs. Connor came to Brussels a
bride when her husband was Rector
of St. John's Ohurch. The citizens
regret to hear. °feller death.
Passed Away in Toronto. -Last Fri-
day morning Miss Rebecca J. Laird,
daughter of the late William and Eliza-
beth Laird, of Brussels, (passed sud-
denly away ,at her (home in Toronto.
The body was brought to Brussels
Saturday morning and interment was
made in the family plot at the Brus-
sels Cemetery. Rev. J. P. Mcl-eod
conducted the service and the pall-
bearers were D. 0. (toss, G. R. Weller,
A: Strachan, N. F. Gerry; -d. Hewitt and
A. R. Currie. Deceased was born in
Haysville, Ont., and when a smell child
came with her •paents Ito Ain'layvltle;
afterwards Brussels. Some 4o years
ago deceased went to London where
for 25 years she was matron at the
Asylum, afterward going to the Heal-
ilton Institution and later Ito Mimic°.
Several years ago she retired and lived
heart trouble. Deceased was the eld-
est daughter df th€ late Alexander and
Euphemia Wright, (formerly of the 14th
Con. 'of McKillop and left there 47
years ago and has •resided int Hart dur-
ing all that period with her now be-
reft husband. Deceased is survived by
her •husband, two sone, and one daught-
er, five grandchildren add one.great
grandchild, also 1150 brothers, Will l;,
Wright, of Battle Creek, Sask., John
C. Wright, of Deloraine, Man., and one
