Expenditure of 540,000 Annually to
Advertise — Hope to Make Cam-
paign Effective This Season.
To spend 510,000 a year or more
for five ,years in advertising Cane-
dian apples, was the program decid-
ed upon at a conference of repeesent-
atives of the Canadian horticnitur'rl
council, provincial goiternlnents of
the fruit -growing provinces, fruit
growers and shippers' organizations
and jobbers' associations, at Ottawa
recently.
The conference decided to sal: tho
provincial departments of agriculture
of the fruit -producing provinces to
contribute to the advertising fund on
a fifty-fifty basis with the industry.
The campaign will be undertaken by
the Canadian Horticultural Council
with the approval of representatives
of the fruit growers' organizations
in each province and other interests
contributing to the fund.
A resolution approvialg this deci-
sion of the conference was passed
unanimously and carried a preamble
stating that in view of the import-
ance of the domestic markets the
conference was of the opinion that,
under existing conditions, the in-
dustry would be benefited to a con-
siderable extent by an organized ad-
vertising campaign for apples
throughout Canada.
