AN assembly was held in the Town
Hall Friday night last.
A Court of Revision will be held Wed-
nesday, December 15th, at 8 o'clock, in
the Connell Chamber to hear complaints
in connection with William street sewer,
recently constructed,
PEDESTRIANS were rather up against it
(or more correctly speaking some of
them were down against it) last Monday
in the sliifpery condition of the streets.
It seems rather peculiar that the slippy
side always seems to be up.

CARD OF THANKS.—We wish to ex-
press our thanks to the many friends
who by word, deed and letter were so
thoughtful and kind to us in the hour of
our bereavement in the loss of wife and
mother. We will never forget how
comforting were these evidences of
kindly sympathy,
Yours Gratefully,
R. DEATHBED/ME AND FAMILY.
DEMISE OF MRS, J. P. BRINE.—Last
week's Huron Expositor referted to the
decease of Mrs. P. Scott's mother as
foliates ;—Since our last issue we have
to record the death of one of the oli
pioneers of this County in the person
„91-fiirrs.e, widow of the late Joseph
P. Brine, of Harpurhey, which occurred
on Sunday morning last, the 14th inst.
Mrs, Brine was the eldest daughter of
Wm. and Mrs. Laidlaw, and sba was
porn in Ayrshire, Scotland. She came
to this country with her parents and the
rest of the family in the early fifties, and
went to reside upon the farm in McKil-
ioti, afterwards known as the Black
farm, her parents shortly after moving
to Turnberry. In 1855 she was married
to the late Jos, P. Brine, of Harpurhey..
After the death of Mr. Brine, which oc-
curred in 1902, Mrs. Brineand ber
family removed to Seaforth, where they
have since been living. Mrs. Brine was
a woman of untiring energy and rugged
constitution and attained to a great age.
Until the last 3 or 4 years she was able
to take an active part in every day life,
but increasing age compelled her to take
a well, eatned rest. While she was able
to sit up every day, she was unable to
take any part in the day's work, and
about four months ago she was compell-
ed to take to bee bed, where she was,
oondoed be the day of her death. We
are pleased to know that during that
time she never suffered any pain and ea-
joyed the most vigilant and attentive
care of ber daughters who survive her,
Mrs, Brine in her day led a very active
life, and sbe had the faculty of making,
and keeping tasting friendships. It
may be truly said of her that she was a
good daughler, an affectionate wife, a
loving neoUser mid good neighbor.
Mrs, Brine leaves behind her to mourn
her loss a son and four daughters and
two sisters besides numerous grand-
children. The funeral took place from
ber late residence on I'uesdey, and was
vary largely attended by her immediate
relations and old friends and aogcalut-
auces, the service being conducted by
Rev, F. H. Larkin, D. D., and Rev. 'I`.
H. Brown, interment Wee made at
Harpurltey cemetery.

WILL REMOVE TO CHATHAM,—A press
dispatch froin Chatham appeared in the
Daily papers last Saturday as follows t—
Cbatham has secured a new industry,
A deal was completed to -day whereby
the plant of the Denby Motor Truck
Campahy passes into the bands of J. T,
Wood & Son, of Brussels, who will
move their knitting factory to this city.
At the last meeting of the City Council
it Was decided to submit a by law to the
people at the next Municipal Election
graassessmentting of$r.7 Woodon oShn a fixed
e Denby
plant. 'Mr. Wood will commence mov-
ing his factory on -the first of December.
Itis his intention to enlarge it in tbe
near future. The Cbatham Daily News
of last Friday says; It was definitely
announced by W. H. Westman this
morning that J T. Wood & Son, pro-
prietors of the Excelsior Knitting Com-
pany, of Brussels, Ontario, have closed
the deal [or the murchAse of thee DenbyMotor Truck Copany's property North
Chatham and will taste possession De-
cember 1st The machinery in the pre-
sent plant at Bruseela will lie moved to
this city and installed as soon ss possible.
Speaking of the new firm Mr. West:nate
who has been in close touch with the
firm, said that 011at1121n was indeed for-
tunate in scouring the plant He said
"the Excelsior Knitting Company will
be a valuable acqulaition 10 the city's in-
dustrial life. The firm has,au establish-
ed business throughout the Dominion of
Canada having been in business for 23
years, manufacturing , lttmberman's.
socks, linings for gloves and other
woolen goods They have an enviable
reputation With the Canadian trade, in
fact one of their reasons for moving
from the present location is the feat
that a larger plant is necessary to take
care of the business, The other reason
for the change is the labor situation in
Brussels. It 10 the plan of the proprie-
tors to not only instch tite machinery of
the present plant in the Chatham build-
ing, but also additional machinery to
greatly enlarge the present output. The
factory will be in operetionin•,the near
future just as soon as the machinery Ceti
be installed."

WILL MAKE A CHARGE AFTER DEC,
1st.—At a meeting of the Board of the
Methodist church, Brussels, it was de-
cided, in view of increasing expense for
taxes, electric lights, lamps, &c. on the
horse shed, to issue auunal membership
tickets, to tbose tubo wish to have the
accommodation, at a fee of $5 per annual
commencing ou December Ist, Of
course this does not apply to the mem •
hers of the Methodist eougregetion who
were at the expense of its erection and
maintenance. This charge means to
cents a week and is not considered a
prohibitive sum as it would cost that for
one trip to hotel stables. Op account of
the convenience of the shed tI has really
become public property, even a feeding
stable to some and in many instances
Methodist folk have been completely
crowded out and forced to go to hotel
stables. Tickets may be obtained at
THE POST or at W. J. McCracken's
store and a mac will be placed at the
shed to see that the plans of the Board
are carried out. It takes about. $6o.00
annually now to provide for necessary
expenditure, to say nothing of interest
ou investment on shed and it is not ask•
ing too much that those who had the
free use for years should now begin to
help bear a share of the expenses. All
who use the shed will be expected to se-
cure tickets (outside of members of con-
gregation) and it they decline will be
asked to find some other place for their
accommodation, Tickets must be paid
for in advance so as to save time and ex-
pense collecting fee.
