The Brussels Post, 1920-11-25, Page 4.Brussels o THURSDAY, NOV5411111,12 es, iveu LEARN n trade. PI,Art to attemi the Winter Fair et Guelph from December 3 lora What about letting the boy- or girl• go this I year? It would do there good. BEWARE. of the house thief and nervy robber who is abroad in the. land. This is trot a scare but a hint to wateb for 1 gentry you are uot acquainted with. SOME folk say quite a quantity of wood will be cut daring the coming Winter. There is a good demand as the question of cunt deliveries appears to be so uncertain THERE is said to be a surplus of sugar totalling 1,500,000 tons and yet the profiteers bad the gall to boost the price to unheard of rates. Now that a sugar scrap is on the public may come to their Own. NOTWITHSTANDING the fact that 27,000 acres of land were not in roots as compared with rgtg the crop this year exceeds its predecessor by 2,000,000 bushels, it is estimated Less Fall wheat is sown this year than last, SOME Kitchener restauranter, named Charlie How, was in the toils for keep. iug and manufacturing opium. $2.000 worth of raw material was found, which is said to come from Montreal, Charlie's early training in China stuck to him we suppose, PERSIAN wedding. presents consist chiefly of paperso E pins and cakes of h soap and are very practical and use- ' ful lines. That's better than the be- stowal of f4 pickle dishes and 17 lemon- ade sets. Those Persians are wise guys but we will likely grow wiser as we grow older, MUNICIPAL Election time draweth on. Keep up the spirit of your community by choosing the very best men possible. It's no easy task, with more kicks than coppers often, yet there's a fascination about public office that appeals to many men. Plan for improvements for 7921 and be prepared to heartily support your municipal representatives. We need no longer sleep with one eye open after November 3oth as the cruiser Aurora and destroyers Patricia and Patriot, gifts to Canada from the Admir- alty, will be en route to Halifax, This is the nucleus of this Dominion's re -or- ganized fleet. Canadian officers and crews will man the trio. A Canadian navy will be no longer a joke. Sosta of the Government Commissions are waking up and holding a few meet- ings. Probably the "boys" want to secure some ready cosh to get their Christmas presents. When reports are made don't seem to matter and the action taken on them by the Govern- ments seems to be of little consequence. It is a mighty costly way of dodging re- sponsibility at the country's expense. THE "tommy rot" taking up the at- tention of some School Boards over the necessity of introducing boxing as part of the school program proves to us that the proper material to fill wards in the ] iusane asylums is to the fore. Surely there are enough of crazy stunts to mhke blackguards out of our youth without training them for prize fighters. WHILE public Sympathy is always evoked toward shipwrecked sailors in the early Winter on our Canadian lakes. is it not about time that the marine law was amended for t aking a vessel out of port after a certain date in the Fall 7 A tnan with a razor or a revolver on his person is amendable why not a Captain.. who runs such hazards as fighting treacherous waters, snow storms, biting blasts and almost pertain disaster ? AN opening has been made for a lively competition among the ladies who have an abuormal quantity of adipose tissue by the demise of ''Lovely Lucy Moore," of Bristol England. She was 43 year of age and tipped the scales at 668 pounds. Her fairy-like dimensions were as fol- lows; -5 feet tali, waist measurement 83 inches, neck 25, arm 27 and calf 25, Ii took 9 man to move Lucy from her bedroom to the ambulance. Now girls get busy and get your applinations in as early as possible. emmakomormis SPECIAL legislation may be passed re- grading the Voters' lists to bs used d At the Prohibition referendum to be taken next April. Dominion Parliament will likely be summoned in lanuary to deal with this and other matters. Present lists are too old to avoid many exclusions unless some expensive style of rectifica- tion is established. A square deal is wanted and no mora "fiddling" with half way measures that, mean nothing Whets secured, Legislation with loop holes Is not worth the paper the Jew is printed 08. This rosy outlook for the three parties in the. field is livening up the battle and some of the trio wast bite the dust We guess that much of Ibe guessingis g simply a guess, sort of whistling to keep the courage tip. Present Government don't intend to Rive up their job a day earlier than they have to, so many think. AWRY Modwo SPRACKLIN is much in the public eye. But it must not be overlooked that everyone of the is jurymen, who live in the locality where the rum -running is rank, signed the verdict that Spracklin was justified in slaying. IF everybody had been law abiders instead of often he- iug law defiers there would be 110 oc- casion for such affairs. If violators don't like their medicine being adminis. tared in the way of arrests, fines and lin• prisonment let them turn over a new leaf and become decent men Law and order rnust'be maintained even if rigid examples most be ma(e 10 show the de- famers that this is Canada and Justice is en the throne. Hent I. W. Pierce Goes To Granby, Quebec, Rev. Ira W, Pierce, referred to in the following item from The Globe, is a former Congregational minister of Listowel, and quite well known here. Mr. Pierce said he wire not through with Armenian relief. iiia preeeut pastor- ate may he terminated at any time political conditions in the Near Beet are settled. This was the condition upon which he agreed to accept a pastorate at the present time, and this arrangement was approved by the American Boatel of Foreign Missions.
