1-I uron Treasurer Gives
Statement of Expenditures
After a careful survey of the seed
situation fo rtbe spring of 113;8. the
Department Hails that there are suf-
ficient oats ami barley in the prov-
ince to look after the seed re,iu're-
ments. This is depenasut on every
farmer taking immediate steps to
have the best 4f his grain cleaned
and set aside for his seed. Many
appear to think that because Melt*
grain this year is off color and a
rLittle under standard in weight that
it will not make suitable seed, hut
tests already made show that when
tbis off -colored and underweight
grain has heed thoroughly cleaned
up to a 50 per cent cut in home in-
stances, good seed was secured
germinated as high as 90 per cent.

If tilts work is done now the clesuad
out grain can be used for feed.
By following out some such policy
there will be no great shortage or
seed next spring. Many farmer's
have a fanning mill of some descrip-
tion, which with a little repair and
an extra screen or two, will clean
grains. The (correct screen, of
course, are important, and should
any farmer bo sr, doubt, the Depart-
ment will be glad to furnish this in-
formation on request. Where
farmer's live within driving and

What is most important is that
the farmers start now so thac the
cleaning and germinating can be
done properly, and not leave it until
a spring rush developes. Germina-
