Last Tuesday evening A. H. Manning,
of Clinton, delivered his interesting
lecture on "The tower of London." It
was a very nicely prepared and instruc-
tive literary treat. The lecturer has
visited the various points of interest
dwelt upon se there is no hearsay about
his descriptions. The Methodist choir
of Brussels, although late getting here,
gave several contributions. The meeting
closed with the customary votes of
thanks. Robt. Holmes, of Clinton, per-
formed the duties of chairman in his
naval genial and capable manner.

The horse races at Walton came off on
Friday of last week as per announcement.
In the open run Beattie Bros. two horses
took 1st and 2nd prizes end Wetson Ain-
loy's bay Srd. There were six horses
entered. The old man's race resulted in
Wm. McKay taking forst place with P.
McEwen and Geo. Cooper second and
third rose otively. A matched 100 yard
foot race between R. Beattie and Wm.
Carter was won by the former. An open
dash between Beattie's gray and Ainley'e
horse was run but the latter bolted and
lost the money. Some of the scenes en-
acted and language used before the crowd
got away was a disgrace to any civilized
community and will never be permitted
again.
