in the Brnsselo Town Hall, of views of
the British Empire, Paris the Hol

present, the majority being children and
young people. The order was very bad,
the young gaffers running the show to a
large extent. Mr. Chapman has a eplon•
did lot of pictures and shows them to
good advantage with his double lantern.
It makes a pleasant entertainment for
an evening.

PASTS TEI9 IN Tenn HAT. -Tho credit
system of doing business has ruined
many good and honest men, A man's
good credit has often been his worst
enemy ; and few men find this out until
it is too late. Too many men often buy
on credit, They pay higher for their
goods, they buy much more than they
otherwise would, the ran of the account
is soon forgotten, and the buying rune
haphazard until the end of the year, and
at the end of that time the accounts are
surprisingly large, and one has bought a
third more than be would had he been
paying up right along, and you have
paid more for the goods bought. The
credit system is ruining men every day.

LEOTBEE.-On 14Ionday evening of tulle
week Rev. Joseph Edge, of Ontario street
church, Clinton, delivered his lecture,
entibled, "Take home the things yon
borrow," to a fair sized audience in the
Methodist °beech of this plane. For up.
wards of an hour he dealt with this sub.
jot in a mosb practical and common
settee manner. After speaking of the
formation of evil habit's he showed the
bad results of neglecting to take home
the things you borrow :-(1) The lender
is injured by oar neglect. People don't
like to lose what they have worked hard
to obtain. It soars the temper of the
man who lauds. It causes people to
make resolves they never should. The
lender is almost sure to receive a bad
name if he, pushes to get back his owe.
(2) The injury done to others. No man
can afford to be dishonest. Many a de-
serving person ie deprived of needed aid
on account of the imposition of dishonest
1
people. (3) The injury hiene to the bor-
rower. Character most not be forfeited
as the greatness of a country depends on
the Character of its inhabitants, When
poverty is our inheritance character is
our fortune. It is all the power some
people have. It is something we can
loan upon. Theory is not as good ea
practice. (4) It destroys conscience.
We require to pub our conscience into
our business if we are in a legitimate
oalling. The excuses made 'for not re.
turning borrowed articles are often more
false than amusing. Face diffioalties in
a straight -forward manner and do nob
resort to scheming and falsehood to cover
up any transaction. Do the square
thing. To succeed in life we should pay
as the go. Be industrious. The lazy
man is almost invariably an idler. Hard
toil is one of the essentials to a success-
ful life. We must be economists of time,
talents, and all the good gifts wherewith
God has blessed toe, as we are responsible
to Bim for the proper use of all these
favors. The reverend leotnrer concluded
hie address by the recitation of several
verges of an appropriate poem oonoerning
Christ being our pilot. A hearty vote of
thanks was given Rev. Mr. Edge on mo-
tion of Rev. R. Pahl and T. Fletoher,
supported by Rev. J. L. Kerr. The lec-
ture was under the auspices of the Young
People's Aseooiation. The choir of the
