John Smith, baggagaman at the G. T. station here, met with a severe accident. He was assisting as brakeman on the train and fell from the top of the car to the track, breaking one of his ribs and otherwise injuring him. On Wednesday of last week Dr. Mac- donald, assisted by Dr. Gunn, of Clinton, and Drs. Tamlyn, Towler and Meldrum. of this town, amputated Walter Sloan's left leg about half way between the in stop and knee. Mr. Sloan has been suff- ering for some time with caries of 111e bone, and it was deoided ate conanitation of physicians a short time ago that am- putation was necessary. The physicians are not over sanguine that he will recov- er now, bvt say there was no chance for him with the foot on.
