On cutting down a large oak tree in Mre. John Colud's swamp in Hay town- ship, Thos. Hartnell discovered a unique curiosity in the shape of a living and thrifty looking currant bosh growing out of a limb that had been broken off and become alightly rotten at the top of the tree. It is indeed a mystery how it got there. The home of Mre. Piper, of this town, was thrown into a most deplorable state of exoitement the other night when it be. came known that her daughter Eva bad swallowed a large dose of laudanum. It appears Mies Eva, who has been in a de• mented state of mind for some time caused by continued fits, went out to spend the afternoon at the residenoe of John. Moore, a neighbor, and after being there a short time started to do some chores around the house, dusting, eto. In the course of her work she name across a bottle, whioh she says, she thought was soothing syrup and drank part of ita con. tents. Not long after swallowing the deadly drug she compieined of being eiok and said she had taken some stuff out of a bottle. Mra. Moore soon discovered that such was the case and that a Urge amount had been taken. Medical aid was summoned and she, is now on a fair way to recovery.
