Departmental stores pay their hired help from ,'2.50 to $1.00
per week and out of that amount the girl has to board and clothe
herself. Those generous Departmental advertise letting their hired
help off at 1 o'clock every Saturday afternoon for recreation. They
have to pay their board first out of this $2.50 or $4,00 per week and
then spend the afternoon at the Opera or other places. Now you
can imagine how much money it costs—how much money does it
cost to board and clothe one in Toronto ? We would just here ask
the people, when they are ordering goods, do they think of the kind
of an institution they are supporting ? Wages all over Ontario for
a good house -keeper aver= $10.00 to $12.00 per month anal board ;
in Manitoba $12.00 to $16.00 per month and board. Learn to
cook and stay at home girls, your proper place is in the kitchen.
Farmers, has your land increased in value since you started to buy
goods from Departmental stores ? Have Departmental stores helped
their own city—say Toronto ?—We say. no 1 they have ruined near-
ly all the small stores. Look at the vacant stores and houses
around Parkdale—No bent, no taxes and now they are trying to
ruin the stores in our towns and villages. But they 011111101 Eat us
all up, especially in Brussels. Farmers, your Timothy is cheap
this your and we will have to match 'em with prices.
