The congregation of St. George's church having fitted up the basement of the church for Sunday School and. social purposes and installed a new furnace therein for heating the church, celebrated the occasion by providing a bountiful fowl supper on Thursday evening last—St, Andrew's Day, -- which was made free to all comers. After sapper a service of Praise and Thanksgiving was held in the church, at which addresses suitable to the occasion and the day, were delivered by the rector,, Rev. H. B. Ashby, rector of Atwood and Rev. Mr. Lackland, Methodist minister. The. musical. portion of the service was provided by the choir of St. John's church, Brussels, who sang two choice anthems, "Praise my Soul' and "Seek ye the Lord" and a Magnificat and Nunc'Dimittis, set to music. by E. Bnnnettand two hymns. Rev. H. B. Ashby sang a fine solo, "One sweetly solemn thought" and he and Mrs. Ashby sang a duel, "He shall wipe the tear from every eye" ; W. J.: Gat, side sang a solo, "The beautiful land of rest.' Program was rendered by local talent and was excellent. The financial proceeds were $20.00. DIED AT GOOD OLD AGE.—Tuesday of this week John Clark, father of Mrs. Jas. Armstrong, 10th eon., died at the home of his son-in-law, Wm. Thompson, St. Augustine, Ont., aged 82 years. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon of this 'week to Bail's eetr:ctery Hallen. It is 11 years since Mrs. Clark died. SOLD AND BoueHT.—James Jackson a former well known resident of the 3rd con., disposed of his farm near Teeswater, to Robert Ballagh, of the same lucidity and has purchased 160 acres from Robert Pearson, 2nd con., Stanley township and a short distance South of Clinton. It is a well im- proved farm for which a good price was paid. The many old friends of the Jackson family wish them years of comfort and prosperity in their new location.
