The raise in the price of sugar is stated by wholesalers here to be the result of crop reports, Beet crops throughout Canada are said to be poor owing to the dry weather, and the cane crop in Europe is also small. The price has advanced several pointe during the last few days and highter prices are looked for. Matches Did This. On August 3rd. fire destroyed the barn of Air. Joseph Yellow of Usborne, togetner with two horses, four calves, nine pigs, about 25 tons of hay and green feed, and his season's crop of wheat. ' Most of the machinery and a new buggy were also burned. The fire was started by children playing with matches. The barn and contents were partly covered by insurance. Attacked By A Rat, Madeline Williams, the little daugh- ter of Mrs. Frank Williams, West Ward, had an experience, which few of much older age would envy, of being attacked by a. huge house rat on Monday evening last. The little lady, in company with several play- mates, was playing in the yard near the hoose, when a rat, of no mean proportion, put in an appearance. The youngsters, thinking that the rodent wished to join them in their play, becatne rather too familiar with him, with the result that when Made- line approached the animal, it sprang at her and fastened its fangs deep into one of her hands, A neighbor, on hearing the child's screams, went to the rescue and soon put a quietus to his ratship's career.—[Mitchell Ad- vocate. x.w:we.•rctnc,cm.m—m-rn+e:ol> arovea.,aai ....* uwesussoe.,,xu,• ..1:GSY.:MI.vLYF21f^.S-V,...r JY+r„.'A IM,llM1CIAlig SAO A.111 b'1L H."✓,r1G•SC^T .f -'>'7h L`^ 7:E4V-sA.•‘... 4.45.-V.{ '^M]EVASla ®GTL83.' .1 .-T}AY:Hk^ Capital Paid Up $ 2,750,000 Reserve and Undivided Profits . 3,150,000 Total Assets . . . . . . 40,000,000 The Bank of Hamilton has made saving simple --by eliminating ail un- necessary Bank formality.
