For more than 40 years we hove been adding a touch of beauty to
the lives of Winghom people.
Lewis Flowers, with greenhouses and salesrooms at 135 Francis St„
provides a wide variety of cut plants, cut flowers, floral arrange-
ments for any occasion, and, in recent years, colourful artificial
arrangements which have been extremely popular.
Winghom has been good to us. . . and we have done everything
possible to be good for Winghom.
ALL GOOD WISHES AND CONGRATULATIONS

Wel I ... sorry about that wisecrack, but
you couldn't expect an up-to-the-minute dry
cleaning establishment to pass up a chance
like that.
Seriously, folks, local friends and visitors
alike, enjoy this anniversary occasion to the
full. Our town has been waiting 100 years
for this happy event, so make the most of it.
For about a quarter of that century we have
been doing our bit to keep Wingham and area
people looking natty and feeling self-confident.
Congratulations

to a great town and all its friends wherever they live.

Equal rights
for women
This advice on the rights of
women appeared in a column
titled 'Education of Girls' in an
1893 edition of The Wingham
'11mes :
The subject of the proper
education of women to meet the
problems of the present century
is now a very live topic. W)en one
looks around and out on the mass
w
of women who are forced to rely
upon their own efforts, it is
amazing how much they ac-
complish with the slight equip-
ment for such exertion that many
of them possess.
A
That women possess all the
qualities of men, except perhaps
physical strength, no one now
cares to deny. We all know that
down through the ages of history
women have been who have held
positions of great responsibility;
women who have risen to the
very height of pourer and in-
fluence, but such women have
been the exceptions of the age in
which they lived.
•
Had all women enjoyed the
mental training that the men of
their class and age received it is
difficult to say what result might
not have been accomplished.
That they have not had that
McBurney, Wilfred Anderson, Frank Buchanan (chairman
training is evident. We all know
of school board), Gordon Young, John Hutton, George Muir,
the history of the courageous
Jim Ferguson; front, Howard Gray, Mae Robertson, Greta
ones who have at last changed
Armstrong, Verna McLaughlin, Laura Holmes, Chester
the current of popular thought so
McLean.
that all fields are practically
open to women.
.. "
How shall she best be trained to
meet all the new requirements?
s-
To the question, 'What education
a
shall woman have?' the answer is
now: `All she wishes or can
lt-
receive.'
