Separate school field day

On Tuesday the four separate
school$ of North Huron; Goder-
ich, Kingsbridge, Clinton and
Wingham, met at F. E. Madill for
their annual track and field meet.
Champions were declared in
six divisions: Senior Boys, Tim
Reid of Goderich, John Poels of
Wingham; Senior Girls, Lori Wil-
liams of Goderich, Linda Sinnett
of Kingsbridge; Intermediate
Boys, Harry lJolthyson of Clin-

Mr. Farwell out some of
the organization's goals for the
year, including continuing the
public speaking contests, sup-
porting a conference in Chatham
sponsored by the Association of
Religious Consultants of the
Diocese of London, contributing
to the golf tournament for
teachers at Mitchell in June and
allocating some money for
professional activity programs to
help pay for guest speakers.
The possibility of establishing a
professional library with the
board was discussed but no
decision was arrived at on the
matter. Mr. Farwell also spoke of
the importance of com-
munication among teachers as
well as among teachers, ad-
ministration and board.

The centennial home and
school committee is wrapping up
its plans for a reunion of people
who went to school in Wingham in
the past century.
The committee met Monday

program. Chris has accepted
a position at the Salvation

School to prep -ire for the 1,500 to
2,000 people expected at the high
school from 9 a.m. to noon,
Saturday. Aug 4 former and
present students and teachers
from Wingham Public School, F.
E. Madill Secondary School,
Wingham and District High
School, Sacred Heart Separate
School, Golden Circle School and
the old business colleges are
invited to attend.
The registration area will be in
the small gymnasium, inside the
main entrance to the high school.
After registration, former
students and staff will be divided
into eight groups, according to
the period they attended school in
Wingham.
Each group will have a room to
go to, home and school com-
mittee cochairwoman Florence
Reavie slid. In the individual
rooms will be photographs and
yearbooks of the time the people
attended school and organizers
hope those returning for the
school reunion bring some photos
of their own along.
The Madill cafeteria will serve
as the general reunion area and
photos from a number of dif-
ferent years will be there. Movies
made of Wingham activities
throughout the years will be
shown as well -
"We're looking forward to a
good happy get together." Mrs.
Reavie said.
There are 15 people actively
working in organizing the school
reunion, including past and
present officials of local schools.
Cancer society
tops fund goal
The Wingham branch of the
Canadian Cancer Society raised
more than the $11,000 goal in its
recent fund campaign, members
of the branch were told at their
June 13 meeting.
Marc Forrest, campaign
chairman, reported the total
receipts were $12,060, an increase
of about $1,000 over 1978. Town
receipts were $3,203.15 and
canvassers in 14 rural areas
brought in $8,856.85. °
A new executive was chosen at
the meeting. Don Kennedy will
act as president, Bill Hanula is
vice president, Mrs. J. M.
Campbell is secretary and
George Michie is treasurer. The
campaign chairmen are Murray
Hunter ih Wingham and Ross
Procter in rural areas.
Guest speaker at the meeting
was Bob Montgomery, field
secretary for the south-western
division and Essex County. He
brought the members up to date
on the cancer society's activities
and praised the local group for its
fund-raising efforts.
Executive members from
Clinton, Seaforth and Goderich
were at the meeting to support
the efforts of the Wingham group
and to share ideas on fund raising
and service.
Also at the meeting was Jen-
nifer Roy of London. She will be
in Wingham this week as part of
the cancer society's industrial
cancer education service.

in the Wingham Public School track and field meet last
week with a jump like this.
RUNNING LONG JUMP was one of the events Wingham
Public School students'competed in last Tuesday and Wed-
