COMMERCIAL LEAGUE Atter three weeks of playoffs Gene's Mean Machine is in first place with 6,780 points and has a slim lead over Frances' Dancers, who have 8,733. Leon's Lions have 8,410 points, Bob's Boozers have 8,346 and lArry's Leapers are right behind with 8,399 points. Roy's Rattlers are in last place with 7,962 points. Verna Haugh bowled the ladies' high scores of the week. She had a 279 single and 690 triple. Kevin Hickey had the men's high single with a 268 game and Brian Douglas bowled the men's 641 high triple. SENIOR LADIES Novas are in first place with 90 points, Cougars have 84 and Cadillacs are well back in third place with 62 points. Wildcats have 51 points, Thunderbirds have 47 and Toyotas have 41. High singles of the week were: Wilma Kerr, 229; Margaret Robertson, 243; Vera Schneider, 205 and Yvonne McPherson, 191. High doubles of the week were: Margaret Robertson, 368; Yvonne McPherson, 304; Vera Schneider, 328; Wilma Kerr, 386 and Elizabeth Robertson, average with 425; Betty Morin had the high triple with a 762 and Doris Remington's 335 game was the season high. Betty Burley was named the most improved bowler. Her average is up 22. Draw winners were Doris Walden, Velma Scott and Jean Elliott. LADIES LEAGUE There is a tight race in the 2 championship division in Ladies T League playoffs. Skinn's Seals are in first place with 3,225 points, Clarks Cougars have 3,177 C and Elston's Elks have 2,975. In the consolation round Tervit's Tigers have 3,084 points, Welwood's Weasels have 3,011 s and Lee's Lions have 2,951. 7 Jeannette Scott and Edna Mae Armstrong tied for the high 1 single of the week. Each bowled a 260 game. Shirley Storey had the top triple with a 698. Bowling over 200 were: Peggy Tervit, 244; Shiriey Wharton, 229; Mary Lee, 231, 237; Caroline Greenaway, 239; Barb Stainton, 207, 210; Audrey Swatridge, 204; Joanne Harrison, 230; Edna Mae Armstrong, 260, 235; Carol Clark, 201 and Shirley Storey, 249, 247, 202. Also bowling over 200 were: Florence Thompson, 231, 234; Jeannette Scott, 260; Beth Skinn, 205, 208; Janet Storey, 254, 230; Lila Hickey, 211 and Jean King, i16, Ill and 237. � � V g �; .� , .. n LEGION LADIES The Legion Ladies bowling banquet was held April 9, with Wunderbars winning. Wunderbars members Betty Morin, Faye Templeman, Velma Scott, Jean Renwick and Doris Remington received the Crothers Trophy from Georgina Crothers. Norma Strong presented the winning team with umbrellas. Kit Kats placed second for the year and team members were presented with stick pins. Mars Bars received Corning Ware skillets and Sweet Maries got tablecloths. Cindy Hutchinson bowled the ladies' high single of 98 and Ethel McMichael had the 544 high triple. Bowling 200 and over were: Bob Harris, 200; Wes Ball, 217; Joe Craig, 206, 344, 211 and Doug Fisher, 300, 236. FORDWICH MIXED Russell Behrns' 321 game was the men's: high of the week. He also bowled the 740 high triple. Gertie Lambkin had the ladies' high scores with a 203 game and 540 triple. Bowling over 200 were: Doug Barfoot, 204; Russell Behrns, 246, 321; Dave Dinsmore, 227 and Gertie Lambkin, 203. (Staff Photo) Bowling party is Saturday The 25th birthday party of the Commercial Bowling League is this Saturday night at the Wingham Legion, not Friday night, as reported in last week's issue of The Advance - Times. In another typographical error about two- thirds of the 200 invited to the birthday party are expected to be there, not the 23 bowlers the story suggested will show up. The Advance -Times regrets any in- convenience caused by the errors. TURNBERRY SAWING—The Turnberry Township cross -cut team of Doug McPherson (back to the camera) and Don Eadle couldn't hack It when given a chance in the Belmore Mareee Syrup Festival cross -cut sawing contest Saturday. The team finished with a time of 39 seconds. The winners from Brant Township won It In 24 seconds. Broom and, Curling Club pin, which will be available shortly. In an attempt to reduce the debt for the additions and renovations at the clubhouse a lottery is being held. The prize will be $1,000, with draws every two weeks for a year. More in- formation is available at the clubhouse or from club mem- bers. Now that the curling season is over it's time to put the brooms into storage for the summer and clean and polish the golf clubs. Until the fall, 'Think golf'. Brownie Corner By Gerda Greenall The ice has been taken out of the curling rink, ending the first full season of curling at the Wingham Golf and Curling Club. On April 2 the men's section completed its last draw. In the 7 p.m. draw the team of Art Carr, Dick Treleaven, Dave Bender and Wayne Mosher finished in first place and Roily Kaufman, John Mann, Bev Lindsay and Bill LeVan were runners-up. Jim Beattie, Cal Burke, Bruce MacDonald and John Cullen formed the winning rink in the 9 p.m. draw and in second place were Stewart Leedham, Jim Watt, Nelson Hill and Ron Clarkson. The Brownies receiving badges were Lisa Daw, craft: Archita Ghosh, housekeeper, needle - worker and Jennifer Watcher. pet keeper. The ' ladies held their closing April 10. Jitney curling in the morning was followed by a delicious pot luck luncheon. Prizes for the morning curling were presented by Louise Stainton. A short business meeting concluded the luncheon. The President's Trophy was presented to the winners of the Industrial League curling: the Toronto Dominion Bank team skipped by Peter Snow with vice Karen Snow, second George Tervit and lead Barb Tervit. The BPs ---Grant Coultes, Don Edgar, Barry O'Krafka and Dianne Metcalfe—were the runners-up. in Mixed curling only first place was awarded in the last draw. The Tuesday night winners were Glen Sellers, Marie Stewart, Bob Gillespie and Aileen Davies. The 6:45 p.m draw on Friday night was won by Dave Ablett, Ruth Orien, Jack Gillespie and John Strong. Stewart Leedham, Lorraine Clugston, Nelson Hill and Peggy Moreland emerged the winners of the 8:15 p.m. draw. The 9:45 p.m. winners were Bill Stephenson, Jackie McBurney, Jim Reeves and Kay Ducharme. All prizes for the Mixed curlers will be awarded at the curling club closing April 28. Tickets are still available at the clubhouse.
