Howick Federation
holds annual meeting
GORRIE— Approximately 60
people enjoyed a pork dinner and
heard Tony McQuail speak on the
topic of energy at the Howick
Township Federation of
Agriculture's annual meeting.
Mr. McQuail, a West
Wawanosh Township farmer who
is actively involved in the
federation on both the township
and county level, was project
leader of the former Energy
Conservation Centre which had
offices in Lucknow and Goderich.
"Farmers today are very
dependent on fossil fuels," he
noted, and he urged farmers to
begin seeking alternate,
renewable energy sources while
there are still fossil fuels on hand.
By considering wind, solar and
wood power and other renewable
energy sources such as methane
produced from animal wastes
farmers can make a gradual
rather than a drastic, traumatic
change before fossil fuels run out.
He also stressed the importance
of every individual developing
energy conservation practices.
During the ensuing meeting the
following executive was elected:
president, Claude Martin; vice
president, Bill Atton; secretary -
treasurer, Ronna Lee .Johnson;
directors, Edger Dane, Stan
Zurbrigg, Lyle Murray, .Jim
Renwick, Elmer Harding, .John
Stafford, Bill Bennett, Murray
Mulvey, Deanne Dickson, Mel
Greig, Bill Atton, Bill Taylor,
Philip Maier, Harold Eskritt and
Garfield Gibson. Past president
is Norman Fairies and county
representatives will he Mr.
Martin and Mr. Atton.
