Dear Mr. Timbrell,
As y -r crifl see by now many pegple are
very upset by your order to close our 14
beds in Wingham hospital. It is a very
unfair thing to try to close those beds that
our forefathers worked so hard to get. We
have more elderly people, have more
people to serve, and still you have the
nerve to take money ahead of human life. I
would hope that you will sit back and
realize that you could be in our shoes, that
our lives are as important as yours.

Dear Sir:
I'm very concerned, as a mother, about
the closure of beds in our hospital—
Wingham and District Hospital, Wingham,
Ont. My main concern is our pediatric
ward. I live in a rural area and one of my
daughters rides to school on a bus. If one of
1 the buses has an accident, where will our
children go for medical attention? If it's a
matter of a life and death situation and the
children have to go to a city because we
don't have beds to accomodate them it
could be very fatal. Is this what has to
happen before the government will stop
dosing much-needed beds? We are talking
of our future generation. Are you prepared
to risk this?
Both of our children have been admitted
to Wingham hospital in the past year. One
as the result of a serious burn accident. It
is a frightening experience for a child.
When they are in their own hospital it is
less traumatic. They are with their own
doctors and close to their family. If our
beds are cut and wards are forced to close
these children will be sent to big city
hospitals where they are scared, alone and
know no one ---not even their doctors.
What would you do if you were in our
shoes? Wouldn't you fight for what is
rightfully yours?
Please reconsider our plea and don't cut
back our much-needed beds. Give our
hospital -the funds it needs to operate them.
Thank you for letting me voice my opinion.
Mrs. Elaine Busby

Dear Mr. Timbrell,
Wingham will close 14 of its active
treatment beds Arpil 1—your orders. Big
deal for the government! It may save
some money and how many patients will
die? How can Wingham hncnital .3ccmyt
more patients than their „'quota',
emergency or otherwise, knowing it will
have its knuckles rapped in the way of a
substantial fine for operating too many
active beds? Would you, Mr. Timbrell,
care to come join us, living in this stormy,
exhilarating, frigid zone, knowing that
unforeseen accident or sickness could
cause your death if the nearest available
hospital bed is 50 or 60 miles away?
You may not realize that our nursing
homes in this area are full. Where would
you suggest our elderly should go? If there
is no room for them in places where they
can be cared for properly then why en-
courage our researchers and scientists to
find new treatments and cures for them'
And what are you going to do with the
money saved? We built this "hospital and
operated it efficiently on our own. The
government seems to operate with a
shopping big deficit. Do you plan to pay off
all your debts and then give the money
saved from bed closures to culture and
recreation? Or will you invest it in Ontario
Hydro to further increase their already
surplus power,
Stop for a moment, please, and along
with oyur able colleagues rearrange tour
priorities. Put health on its proper rung on
the ladder. Let culture, recreation and
energy take a lesser rung. Then you, your
colleagues and our affable premier, Mr.
Davis, can be `moderately optimistic' of
the future of health care in Huron County's
north.

Dear Sir,
Together with many citizens of the town
of Wingham and surrounding area, I view
with deep concern and alarm the
pro -position. 31, the provincial, go-verriment
to close 14 beds in the Wingham and
District Hospital as of April 1. To me, this
means 14 more by the year's end and
eventually the closure of the hospital itself
at some future date, the hospital care
process being replaced by large 'efficient'
and impersonal hospitals in the large
centres of Ontario only.
Wingham hospital has been blessed with
dedicated hospital board members over
the years, efficient and caring doctors and
staff and an administration which has had
charge of one of the most efficient
