was a corn roast which followed the ball game. Here the
pots of corn boil over a wood fire. Spectators could get a
submarine sandwich and all the corn they could eat for
$1.00. The proceeds went to help defray the cost of
constructing the pavilion and ball field. Fans were charged
50 cents to get into the day's activities.

PART OF THE CEREMONIES which officially opened the Wroxeter ball field and
pavilion was a ball game between the finalists in the 1950 Western Ontario Athletic
Association championships.
WINDUP OF STONE SCHOOL pitcher, Jack Higgins,
might confuse a lot of youngsters who watched the
Oldtimers game at the opening of the Wroxeter pavillion
and ball diamond Sunday. He uses the orthodox underhand
windup which was used in the old days before the new
windmill style was adopted. The new style was brought into,
use when softball became fastball as it is known today.

THE NEW WROXETER DIAMOND has seating for about
200 fans. At the official opening Sunday the spectators
overflowed to the sidelines and a number of people brought
their own seating accommodations. While the Oldtimers'
game was being played the fans lined the third baseline to
catch some of the sun. It will be noted, some brought
blankets to wrap around themselves as the wind was a little
on the chilly side.
