THE DAYS BEFORE YESTERDAY
Going through a pile of old photographs recently, one of
our readers came across a picture of The Wingham
- Advance Staff and their employer, posed in the front door of
the office. This photo was taken, of course, before the
amalgamation of the The Advance with -The Times. Bill
McCool, former owner of The Advance Times, tells us that
the publisher of The Advance at the time the picture was
taken was probably Theo Halt, who sold the paper to John
Joynt in 1913. The staff members, in traditional black
printers' aprons, numbered four and posed with a big black
dog whose duties in the pant shop are not clearly
understood.
A careful comparison of the original photo with buildings
along the main street leads us to believe it was the northern
half of the Meyer, Block, now a part of Leroy Jackson's
plumbing outlet and before that the late W. A. Heughan's
harness repair shop.
