JEFF WILKINSON plays lawn darts at the Riverside Park
Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wilkinson, Hanover came with
their sols in their camper to spend a quiet weekend. Mr.
Wilkinson said, "We heard all about it from a brother in
Teeswater."

Riverside Trailer Park, situat-
ed near Canadian Legion Hall in
Wingham is a beautiful spot next
to the Maitland River. Fishing is
interesting and one can enjoy
boating or canoeing. Every
weekend the park fills up with
trailers, tents and campers. Just
why do people come? To get
away from everything seems to
be the main reason.
Mrs. Wendy Weber stated it
most succinctly, "You can't hear
the phone here." Mrs. Weber was
up last weekend with her hus-
band, daughter and daughter's
fiance. The Webers, when at
home in Strathroy are kept busy.
Mrs. Weber is a seamstress and
Mr. Weber a radio foreman.
So they escape — to Riverside
Park. Mrs. Weber said, "It's
quiet and peaceful. You get to
know the people at the site. I
come to relax." Friday night
some of the campers sat up until
three around a fire, singing songs
to the accompaniment of guitar
and accordion. Also on Friday the
more rambunctious enjoyed a
hilarious water fight.
Mrs. Weber described other ac-
tivities — lawn darts, football,
softball and other games Wil

How did the Webers discover
Riverside Park? Last year, they
were going through Wingham
during a bad rain storm and stop-
ped at a gas station. When they
asked where there was a camp-
ing site, they were directed to the
park. It was a happy chance, for
the Webers liked it so much they
came back for more and spread
the word. The Johnsons also from
Strathroy are one family who
were at the site because the
Webers had told them about it.
Mrs. Leonora Johnson told how
her boys, aged 13, 11 and 9, "Just
love fishing. Billy was up at seven
this morning. and he caught
four." When the Johnsons ar-
rived at Riverside Park Friday
they were pleasantly surprised,
side
for Mrs. Johnson's sister and
brother-in-law, niece and hus-
band were there. It gave them a
nice opportunity to visit.
Mr. Wilkinson, his wife and son
Jeff were also up for a few days.
They had heard about the park by
word-of-mouth since a brother in
Teeswater was quite enthusiastic
about it. Mr. Wilkins9n was
polite, even though a game of
lawn darts with his son had been
interrupted. "We like it. We don't
like too much excitement as at
Wasaga Beach and so on."
For Saturday, Mr. Wilkinson
said they went downtown for
Sidewalk Days and had gone for a
long walk by the river. "But other
than that, we've been just plain
lazy." If the weather had been

for a different ream. They live

they have an apartment in Wing -
ham. Mrs. Rosemary Kuepfer
explained, "It's a lot nicer and a
lot cooler for sleeping at night."
Mr. Johnson had a lot more to
say about why he and his family
were at the park. "It's not crowd-
ed. You come here and there's al-
ways a place. In provincial parks
you have to be quiet and turn the
lights off at ii -W, but here you
can sit down and talk. The camp-
ers are more friendly here too."
He went on, "This is the first
place I've been where we get a
key to the washroom."
Mr. Johnson works as a plate

He had several other things to
say. "There should be a larger
shelter for times when it rains."

liam J. Johnson yelled, "You
know what we need around here,
more women." No one took him
seriously.
An easy bantering camerad-
erie exists among many of the.. -
campers with jokes flying back
and forth. A large group sat
around a picnic table and did
very little else. What bliss!
FRIENDS SPEND lazy afternoon talking to each other at the Riverside Park campsite.
The Webers, from Strathroy liked the park so much, they told friends all about it. Leonora
Johnson sits with Mrs. Wendy Weber and daughter Betty Weber.
