The Wingham Advance-Times, 1976-06-24, Page 17Lacrosse team still tries hard
Wingham's lacrosse team,
Novice -Tykes put up a good fight
on Saturday against the Owen
Sound team. However, they were
defeated with a score of 134. Part
ui Lice expianauon for the loss is
that the rival team had slightly
older players.
Ken Henry, coach for the Wing -
ham team, says the goalie, John
Saint "played very well. He was
tremendous". It was the first
time John had played in this posi-
tion. Bert Sjaarda was the hot-
shot player for the day scoring
three goals. Jim Dennis, Dan
Mansell and Jason Goodsell all
scored one goal each `
Judging by the number of
assists, the Wingbam group is •
rWWY ung to Play like a
team. Tim Brown and John LAW -
ham had two assists each and
Paul Robinson had one asdat.
The next game for the Wing -
ham Novice -Tykes will be held at
the arena Saturday morning at
11. This time Owen Sound will
have younger palyers on their
team, so the game should be a
much closer competition. Fans,
come out and enjoy the action
and support the team.

The local PeeWee baseball
Mom really shook the Crediton
team to the roots in Crediton last
week to the score of 32.2 in a
regularly scheduled game. The
Brophy PeeWees have yet to lose
a scheduled game and lead their
league of seven teams.
All 14 players saw some action
in this one and Dave Montgom-
ery, a Tyke, took over catching in
the fifth after Ken Deichert took
.sick. Davy did a very commend-
able job and you can look for him
to help out with that position once
in a while to give Ken a break.
This, game marked the half-
way point in the schedule and it
won't be long before playoffs roll
around. Maybe some of the local
people could get off their easy
chairs and come out and support
the youngsters as they are play-
ing excellent baseball and we are
sure you would enjoy it.
Peter Goodall pitched two full
innings in this game and struck
out five of the first six boys to
face him. Looks as if the pitching
staff might increase by the end of
the year.
