The Wingham Advance-Times, 1983-06-22, Page 10Page 10—The Wingham Advance -Times, June 22, 1983 Whitechurch Personals Last Tuesday, Michael Irwin, Brian Ross, Darlene Schneller, Tammy Stone and Juanita Little, all public school students from the village, left for Ottawa where they toured the parliament buildings and visited many sites of in- terest. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Glover of Sarnia spent the weekend and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Irwin and Cody spent last Saturday and Father's Day with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Milligan_ Mr. and Mrs. Ray Berg of Tavistock were Sunday afternoon visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Uuldriks visited last Monday to Thursday with friends at Hastings and spent last Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Boonstra and family of Sarnia. Over 20 members of St. Marys Presbyterian church congregation attended the Sunday service at Chalmers Presbyterian Church to hear student minister Rod Lamb. Mr. Lamb was a member of the St. Marys congregation prior to being posted at Whitechurch by the Board of World Missions of the Presbyterian Church of Canada last September. After the service, he and his wife Debbie attended the annual campover at Camp Kintail. Pupils from Whitechurch who attend the Lucknow school went on a bus trip to Midland and were: Tony Falconer, Stephen Tiffin, Lana Craig, Tracy and Darlene Schneiler. Monday's bus trip took them to see the works of the Indians at Midland. Mrs. Simon deBoer of Lucknow and Mrs. Kragt and daughter Ingrid of British Columbia visited last Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. John deBoer and family. Mrs. Ron Nicholson, Erin and Ryan of Strathroy, spent the weekend with Mr_ and Mrs. John deBoer and family and attended the birthday celebration for Mrs. Simon deBoer. A birthday party was held Sunday for Mfrs. Simon deBoer at the Brookside school. Present from here were: Mr. and Mrs. John deBoer, Eddie and Donnie, Mr. and Mrs. Jim deBoer, Matthew, Michael and Alicia, Mrs. Roely deBoer, Joanne and Fred, Mr. and Mrs. Koots and family of Moorefield, and Mrs- Kragt and Ingrid of British Columbia. Mrs. deBoer received many gifts and a good time was had by all. Mrs_ Kragt and Ingrid left Tuesday for B.C. Father's Day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John A. Currie were Robert Currie, Hamilton, Lisa Boissan-l1 neault, also of Hamilton, Heather Currie, Toronto, Sandra Currie, Norm Richards, Georgetown and Andrea and Erica Courtis of Dorchester from last Saturday to Thursday_ Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott and Karen attended the Elliott reunion last Saturday at Woodstock and ' visited with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laidlaw and family of London and attended Chalmers Church Sunday. David Elliott of Stratford visited Sunday with his parents, Mr. and , Mrs. Walter Elliott_ Barry Tiffin and Charles St. Pierre of Toronto visited last Tuesday and Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Tiffin of Wingham. A birthday party was held last Saturday for Mrs. Wallace Milligan and present were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Irwin and Cody of Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Bin Glover, Sarnia and Mr. and Mrs_ Alan Falconer, Amy, Tim and Tony_ Mr. and Mrs. Archie Montgomery were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falconer. Friends gather for Gaunt 50th anniv. The weather was warm on June 11, 1983, but no warmer than the best wishes from the large gathering of relatives, friends and neighbors who attended the 50th wedding anniversary reception at the Whitechurch Community Hall for Mr. and Mrs_ Russell Gaunt of Wingham_ Mr. Gaunt and his bride, the former Ethel Currie, were married June 14, 1933, at the home of the bride's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. David Currie of East Wawanosh Township. Mr. Gaunt is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs_ Thomas Gaunt of Kinloss Township_ The couple farmed in Kinloss for over 40 years; they now reside on Edward Street in Wingham. Of the 40 guests who at- tended the wedding 50 years ago, 10 were present for the anniversary. John Gaunt of Whitechurch was the best man: Jean Currie Elliott of Ottawa was the bridesmaid, R. W. Mr. and Mrs_ Gaunt have a daughter, Janet, Mrs_ Don Dirstein, who lives with her family, Richard and Carolyn, at Ajax, and a son, Donald, who lives with his, wife Mary and their family Jennifer and Graeme at Chatham_ Friends attended from Hanover, Owen Sound, Toronto, Kitchener, Clinton and Paisley. Tiffin's Or- chestra provided music for dancing and. the Women's Institute served the smorgasbord lunch. Fifty yellow roses, a gift from their family, adorned the table centre, and Murray Gaunt, on behalf of their friends, wished the happy couple many more years_ All sang "Put on Your Ofd Gray Bonnet" with Jean Ross at the piano_ A family dinner was held June 11 and a get-together meal for relatives on June 12. Best wishes were received from the prime minister, lieutenant-gov- ernor ieutenant-governor of Ontario, premier of Ontario and local MPPs. Mr_ and Mrs. Bill Rintoul and Mr. and Mrs. Mack Cardiff of Brussels visited Father's Day in Kitchener at the home of Mr_ and Mrs. Gordon Campbell where Mr. and Mrs. Oberholtzer and family and Mr. and Mrs. Gutowskie and family came to visit them. Chalmers WMS held its meeting l last Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Don Ross with nine in attendance. Mrs. Ross gave the call to worship and the meditation was on "Frustration", with the scripture along the same line. Mrs. Norma Rintoul led in prayer and Mrs. Wes Tiffin gave a reading. The topic "Development is People" was given by Mrs. Rod Lamb. The July meeting will be held at Mrs. Bill Fantoul's. The birthday tea closed the meeting. Hanover and Owen Sound had a double-header Sunday afternoon in Owen Sound. Ing the afternoon game, the score was 10-4 in favor of Hanover and the score of the evening game was 7-5, also in favor of Hanover. Joey Tiffin of Whitechurch is the pitcher for Hanover and he had 15 strikeouts. Mr. and Mrs. John Gaunt were at Bayfield Sunday afternoon to see the Walt Disney wagon which was drawn by eight horses_ They report the wagon is something to see. Mr. and Mrs. Don Vincent, Patrick, Angela and Aaron of Riverview, New Brun- swick are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent of Belgrave, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Webster, for three weeks of holidays. Piano pupils give recital WROXETER — The piano pupils of Mrs. Art Gibson presented an enjoyable program for their parents and friends last Thursday evening in the Sunday School room of the United church_ Those taking part were Sherri Bennett, Jennifer Brown, Colin and Amy Darling, Julie and Lori Brown, Michelle Eadie, Sharman and Sara Woodley, Jason Edgar, Peter Robertson, Pam Bennett, Kendra Statia, Jennifer Pyke, Catherine Edgar, Julie Gibson; Cathy Oriold, Stephanie Kaster and Leanne Fraser. They toured the International Bakery and also visited the Great Glass House. They returned home by way of London and had a smorgasbord supper at The Barn restaurant. Surprise party marks graduation FORDWICH-`; A surprise graduation party was held by relatives, friends and neighbors and another by fellow staff members for Jean Loughran recently. She spent the week of May 29 to June 9 at Carleton University, Ottawa, writing her final exams in the Canadian Hospital Associ- ation extension course for food service supervisors. She is employed as food service supervisor at the Fordwich Village Nursing Home. Also visiting at the same home over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ashton and Mrs. Margaret Strangway of Islington, Mrs. Pauline Grindrod of Port Credit and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Plant of Allenford.
