The club held its awards trophy, presented by Skinn, banquet Saturday presented by Brian George for the night. hers' auxiliary wraps up its :s son By Mary Lou Cameron The final meeting of the 1982-83 season of the Mothers' Auxiliary to Wingham Minor Hockey was held recently to round up the year's business. The ladies expressed thanks to all the volunteers over the season and said it was a very suc- cessful one. The auxiliary will have a substantial donation to make to minor hockey this fall to help defray expenses for the 1983-84 season. Special mention to the booth cap- tains who really work well with their teams to organize the work weeks. The '83 executive extends its thanks to the members of the Wingham Legion who sponsored a terrific awards day celebration. They fed lunch to all those enrolled in minor hockey and supplied their auditorium for the presentation ceremonies. It AWARD-WINNING IRONMEN—Jim LeGrand won the rookie award, Ken Cousins was the top scorer and they shared the three -star award for the Wingham Ironmen last season. The trophies were presented by Brian Skinn, Doug Finley and Doug Skinn during the club award night Saturday at the Wingham Armouries. WINGHAM IRONMEN AWARDS went to Dave Mont- gomery, most improved player, and Ken Cousins, Don Higgins Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship, at the team's awards banquet Saturday night. Making presentations are Terry Merkley and Peter Bauer. the THE FORDWICH BOWLING LEAGUE held its annual dinner and awards banquet at the Anglican Church in Fordwich. Winners of the first half of the season are: back, Roy Kennedy, Scott McLean, Murray Wilson, Dave Dinsmore; front, Millie Nixon and Debbie Fallis. made a special farewell to the hockey season. To all the companies who supplied prizes for draws throughout the year, thanks. It was greatly appreciated. The ladies also were pleased that so many winners were local people. Joan Pollard was the liaison person from the minor hockey executive and she certainly was an en- thusiastic member at meetings. She is thanked for her efforts on both executives. A history book has been compiled to commemorate the auxiliary's tenth year. It is to be kept in the trophy case for future years. President Dianne Thyme said she was pleased with the year and the incoming president, Mary Houghton, is hoping for the same ex- cellent response for her executive. Special thanks to Marlene Foxton for her tremendous job as treasurer. Agri -Lotto draw winners The first draw of the Teeswater Agri -Lotto 300 Club for '83-84 was held May 10 with Don Gowland of RR 2, Teeswater, winning the $500 prize. Six prizes of $100 each went to: Florence Grant, Teeswater ; Bruce and Helen Keith, RR 2, Teeswater; Ron McKague, Walkerton; Ian and Andy Grant, . RR 1, Formosa; Lloyd McPherson, RR 3, Teeswater; Ralph and Debbie Metcalfe, RR 1, Clifford. Eleven tables at last euchre BLUEVALE — The last euchre party of the season was held Monday night in the Bluevale Community Hall with 11 tables in play. High prizes were won by Winnie Boyd and Harvey Timm. Low winners were Priscilla Bray and Gordon Louttit. Golf Club News The summer months are. shaping up as busy ones at the Wingham Golf Club. Several in -club activities are starting in May such as the opening of the Sunday Morning Sinners group, the Wednesday Night Men's (tonight) and the Friday "Mixed Nights" 'opening May 27. These mixed nights will be held every Friday evening and will feature dances and card games tied in with a nine -hole golf event and a dinner special. Free clinics will be held for the ladies Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. and there will be free lessons for the active juniors. Other features offered this year will be: preferred starting times Saturdays and Sun- days which can be booked by members; special tour- naments for members; locker facilities and club storage; lessons from the club professional, Ron Knight, and his assistant, Scott Shuker; and a fully - stocked pro shop. Other events of note starting in June are the "Beat the Pro" tour- naments, the beginning of the McKinney Tray elimination, the men's two - ball best and the ladies" invitational tournament. Mr. Knight reminds golfers that the club house is open from 8 a.m. in the morning and a new menu is being featured. brownie corner The following Brownies earned badges: Lisa Alexander, thrift badge; Kendra Machan, book - lover's; Shannon Robin- son, explorer's. All the Brownies received service stars. Dawn Craig did Brownies in other lands. Group A discussed their camp, Group B worked on their banquet favors and Group C did activities involving balls, ropes and bean bags. The Brownies are still selling cookies. `ptimists re rt quite a good catch at derby Despite having to contend with weather that only a fish could love, the Wingham Optimists report a good turnout for their recent fish derby. A total of about 400 fish were caught and about 20 tags were turned in, for a reward of $5.00 per tag. The club handed out 10 hats, 10 lures and 125 grab bags to the young fishermen (and women) . The derby will continue through the summer until the end of September, with the club paying $5.00 for each tagged fish turned in. The tags (not the fish) can be turned in at Elliott's Lunch Bar on Diagonal Road. Mixed league holds FORDWICH — The 1982-83 bowling banquet for the Fordwich Mixed League was held last Tuesday evening at the Anglican Church. The ACW ladies catered the meal. Following the dinner, a short business meeting was held with President Carole Hohenadel gi esiding. An election for the 1983-84 of- ficers wart held. They are: nquet president, Murray Wilson, vice president, Bill Gilmer, and secretary -treasurer, Peggy Schneider. Following the election, Gord Matheson presented the trophies. The meeting adjourned with everyone saying they hoped to return for the fall season. If interested, call Peggy Schneider at 291-2986. Spares also are urgently needed. INDIVIDUAL AWARD WINNERS from the Fordwich Mixed Bowling League received their trophies at a din- ner held at the Anglican Church, Fordwich. Winners are: back, Doug Browne, men's high single; Peter King, most improved man; Murray Wilson, men's high triple; Dave Dinsmore, men's high average; front, Peggy Schneider ladies' high triple; Jean Ashley, ladies' high average; Carole Hohenadel, ladies' high single. Absent is Jeannette Reid, most improved lady.
