GORRIE — The May
meeting of St. Stephen's
Anglican Church Guild was
held at the home of Mrs.
William Bennett last Wed-
nesday. Mrs. Jasper Far-
rish, the president, opened
the meeting with prayer.
Mrs. William Gray was in
charge of the devotions and
took "Wings" as her theme:
Wings of Hope, Faith,
Prayer and Love. Several
hymns were sung with Mrs.
L. Kerley at the piano. The
roll call was answered with a
Mother's Day thought by 20
members. The minutes were
read and adopted and the
treasurer's report given,
which showed a very suc-
cessful craft show.
Half of the money made at
the church luncheons will go
to the diocese aportionment.
Articles about the home for
battered women in Goderich
were asked for. The bus trip
to Toronto June 20 will leave
at 8:15 a.m. Ticket prices
include admission to Ontario
Place.
The collection was taken
for the Church Hunger Fund
and it was announced the
church picnic will be held
June 26 at 2 p.m. in the
Wroxeter Park, if arrange-
ments
rrangements can be made, with
Trinity Church Fordwich.
A noon luncheon for May
26 was planned. The penny
team captains are to report
to Mrs. Fairish and the
lowest team is to entertain
the winning team sometime
in June or July. There will be
a board meting May 30 at
8:30 p.m. in the church hall.
The next meeting will be at
Mrs. H. Zimmerman's June
8 with a plant exchange for
the roll call.
Rev. Gray closed the
meeting with a prayer. The
mystery gift, donated by
Mrs. V. Underwood, was won
by Mrs. C. Ruppel. An
auction was conducted by
Mrs. Bennett and a ' few
games of bingo were played.
Lunch was served by the
hostess, assisted by Mrs.
Bruce Bennett.
Prayer is theme
of UCW meeting
FORDWICH — The af-
ternoon unit of the Fordwich
United Church Women met
last Thursday afternoon in
the Sunday School room. The
theme of the meeting was
pryer.
Mrs. Russell Nickell, unit
president, opened the
meeting with a poem, "I Met
the Master Face to Face".
The worship centre was
decorated with daffodils and
a picture of praying hands,
as well as a plaque from the
Passion Play in front.
The worship and program
were presented by Mrs. Cy
Marzec and Mrs. John
Stinson: Psalm 45 was read
by Mrs. Stints n, whsle Mrs.
Marzec gave readings on
prayer and the story of "The

glican Church Women en-
joyed a trip to Japan at their
Thankoffering meeting
Thursday night at the
church. Alex Connell, guest
speaker, showed slides of the
trip he, his wife and family
took to Japan. Following the
interesting pictures, a
question -and -answer period
was enjoyed-arthd the ladies
felt they ha&beech on the trip
with the Connell family. Mrs.
J. W. Daunt, on behalf of
everyone, thanked Mr.
Connell.
Guests from Kurtzville
and Fordwich United
Churches, the Brethren -In -
Christ Church and St.
Stephen's Anglican Church
were present. President
Mrs. Doug Bunker presided
and devotions were con-
ducted by Mrs. Emerson
Ferguson and Mrs. Bill
Sothern.
Members were reminded
of the bus trip in Jtine, the
Deanery meeting Tuesday,
June 7, at Ripley and the
birthday party at Mid-
western Regional Centre on
Tuesday, May 24, at 7 p.m.
The meeting closed with
prayer and a social half hour
was enjoyed.

Mrs. hosts WMS meet
GORRIE — Mrs. Glenn
Underwood opened her home
for the May meeting of the
Women's Missionary Society
of Knox Presbyterian
Church. President Mrs.
James Robinson opened the
meeting with a poem, "God's
Way Is the Best", and took
scripture from I John,
chapter three. It was
followed by prayer.
Roll call was a verse in
honor of mothers. Mrs. Alvin
Mundell, secretary, read the
minutes and the report of the
spring Thankoffering. Mrs.
Underwood received the
offering and it was dedicated
by the president who also
gave an interesting study of
the Pacific Islands. She told
of the many different
islands, their climate,
customs and many different
languages. Their religion is
Christianity.
The singing of a hymn and
prayer ended the meeting.
Lunch .was ?¢erved by the
hostess. '
Praying Hands" which,
originated in 1490. Her
thoughts included the im-
portance of being definite
when praying.
The collection was
received and dedicated. Mrs.
Stinson introduced the hymn
"Let There Be Light", which
Mrs. Jack Wilson sang solo.
Then, Mrs. Stinson went
into the different elements of
the Lord's Prayer, followed
by a meditation by William
Barclay entitled "God Who
Hears". Mrs. Stinson also
told the story of Dale Evans
of TV fame who, with her
family of seven children,
found moments for prayer.
She also quoted from Mother
Theresa of India who said:
Joy is prayer, a joyful heart,
Joy is Happiness. She closed
with the Lord's Prayer in
unison.
Mrs. Nickell conducted the
business and Mrs. Clarkson,
'the secretary, read the
minutes while the treasurer,
Mrs. Cooper, gave her
report.
Lunch was „served. by Mrs.
Wallace Bilton, Mrs. Scott
Clarkson, Mrs. John Topham
and Mrs. C. Carswell. Mrs.
Carswell made a birthday
cake for Mrs. Crosby
Sothern who celebrated her
birthday last Thursday.

the Women's Institute 81st
district annual meeting.
Mrs. Elmer Harding of the
Fordwich WI presided over
the event, held in Gorrie
United Church, May 10 with
97 delegates registering.
Mrs. James McMahon of
Ethel WI, district secretary -
treasurer, reported a drop in
membership.
Resolutions must be pro-
perly prepared and include
plenty of support materials,
stated Mrs. H. Wallace of the
Lakelet Women's Institute in
her report of the Officers'
Conference held in Waterloo.
The Federated Women's
Institute of Ontario board
director, Mrs. Norman
Coghlin of Atwood, reported

be obtained on loan through
the FW 10 office.
Mrs. Leslie Knight of
Cranbrook WI stressed that
each WI member should be
working on public relations
for the organization.

The home economist's re-
port was presented by Jane
Muggie.
