On the eve of the last epi-
sode of M.A.S.H. which is a
monument to how good tele-
vision can be, it's interesting
to speculate on what is down
the road.
I saw a promo the other
night for a new show, hosted
by attorney F. Lee Bailey. It
seems a guest who has some
real important reasons not to
tell the truth (the one I saw
featured the man who
claimed Howard Hughes be-
queathed him a fortune) , but
swears he is not lying, is
given a lie detector test.
A great part of the pro -

Jaycees ask nominations for
Outstanding Young Farmer
Skip Maher, Elmira Jay-
cees, has announced that
entry forms are now avail-
able for the 1983 Outstanding
Young Farmers' Awards
Program.
Entry forms may be had
by contacting (519) 669-5054
or (519) 669-1400. Deadline
for entries in the local
competition is March 21.
Winners will be announced in
this newspaper on March 30.
This program is designed
to bring about a better un-
derstanding of the problems
and achievements of the
farmers in our area.
"Agriculture is Canada's
oldest and biggest industry,"
Skip Maher said. "And as a
consequence of the ability
and efficiency of the men en-
gaged in this industry, ours
is the best -fed, best -clothed
nation in the world. It is our
hope that the OYF program
will result in a better under-
standing and appreciation of
the role the farmer plays in
our daily lives."
The young farmer selected
must be between the ages of
18 and 39 inclusive, and not
turn 40 before January 1,
1984. He must derive at least
two-thirds of his income
from farming and does not
have to be a Jaycee member.
He will be selected locally,
and judged in a regional
competition, on his progress
since entering agriculture,
his soil and water .conserva-
tion practices and his contri-
butions to his community,
Ontario and the nation.
This is the fourth year the
Canada Jaycees, a leader-
ship training organization, in
conjunction with the Calgary
Exhibition and Stampede,
has conducted a national
OYF program and the first
year the Elmira and District
Jaycees have participated.
The program is sponsored
nationally by the Bank of
Montreal.
The local competition
winner will be entered in the
regional OYF contest and, if
he wins there, will represent
Great Lakes Region (South-
western Ontario) at the Na-
tional Outstanding Young
Farmer Banquet in Calgary,
Alberta on October 27-29,
1983.

THURSDAY, 8:00 P.M. -"BEAR ISLAND". Starring Donald
Sutherland, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Widmark, Bar-
bara Parkins, Lawrence Dane, Lloyd Bridges and Chris-
topher Lee. This adaptation of an Alistair MacLean ad-

Warning System.
machine is the wave of the
future. Nothing else has
"worked".
It's possible the human
element no longer amuses or
titillates us.
I know this. If this show
has any kind of rating at all,
indicating a trend, you can
look forward next season to
the following lineup:
Celebrity Heartbeat! An
exciting new game show
where celebrities are given
an electrocardiogram and
contestants chosen from the
audience are pitted against
one another to see which one
has the best. score. (The
audience is divided into red,
blue, and green teams and
can also share in the fun.)
"And The Winner Is ..." A
weekly series on how the
votes are tabulated for such
exciting shows as the Os-
cars, Ernmys, Tonys,
Granlmys, Country Western,
etc. A behind -the -scenes look
at Price and Waterhouse
pushing buttons and discuss-
ing how many rented tuxe-
dos are soiled when they're
returned. A family bonanza.
"Feeding Your Compu-
ter," A computer nutritionist
discusses how to keep your
computer healthy. With
guest appearances by H. and
R. Block, E. F. Hutton and I.,
B. and M.
"Go Play in the Traffic," a
sitcom set in the drama of
the Driver's License Bureau.
Every week, Professor
Kingsley helps teenagers
crarn for their eye test. The
drama builds as each week
we try 'to guess which stu-
dents will pass and which
one will fail. (Look for Par-
allel Parking to be a spinoff.)
Television . has always
gone with trends, from medi-
cine to law to Westerns to
drama to comedy and pri-
vate eyes. It's the machine's
turn. Be still, my beating
heart.

which are now in use all over
