Rick Jacklin came off the
bench on a player change
and was fed a perfect pass at
centre. He took the puck one
step over the blueline and
rocketed one into the upper
left corner of the net.
The Sailors hit the score

tested Royals' goalie Hugh
Nichol, who made the save,

pads and deflected off a
Royal stick into the net to

must have told his crew
something, because they
came out full -sail into the
second pedod with a pair of
quick goals by their captain,
Wayne Rau. The first goal
came at the the 13 second
mark and the second at the
47 second mark to tie the
game.
At 8:33 Goderich took the
lead for the first time in the
game. " The Reyals
rebounded and tied it.at 31
as Ken Marchildon worked
the puck back to Blaine
McCutcheon, who blasted
one of his patented low
zooming shots into the net
and the score read Goderich
4, Royals 4, at the end of the
second.
The third period was filled
with good, clean and exciting
hockey. At 10:50, Kevin
Hastie threw a lead pass to
Murray Black, who skated
over the blueline and with a
quick wrist shot, reminiscent
of the great Gordie Howe,
gave the Royals a 5-4 lead.
But the Sailors came right
back and Rau scored his
third of the'game to tie it at
13:32.
It looked as though it
would end a tie. .Then as the
clock wound down, Dale
Duncan picked up the puck
at his own blueline and
caught the Royals napping
as he walked in alone to win
the game with only 18
seconds left.. •
WHISTLE STOP — There
was a good following of
Royals' fans in Goderich.
Goderich captain Wayne
Rau led the attack with three
goals and one assist and Paul
Kelly had four assists.
For, the Royals, Rick
Jacklin and Blaine
McCutcheon shared the
scoring with a pair of goals
each.
A new face in the Royals'
lineup has the appearance of
the Islander's Ken Morrow.
He is Steve Lehman and he
played , a strong two-way
game for the Royals.
Paul Cerson :played a
steady, checking game and
was a thorn in the side for
many Sailor attacks. Despite
his size, on one occasion,
Paul up -ended Sailor
Graham Hamilton in the
corner with a fine check.
And by the way, Santa, if
you are listening, Coach Bill
'Kerr would like a pair of
healthy defencemen. In fact,
he would probably settle for
one to replace that king pin
of the blueline, Bernie
Haines, who is out for the
season with a knee injury.
The loss of Haines' services
and strong -play, leave a big
hole in the Royals' roster.
With only 10 minutes in
penalties handed out by
referee Clark Pollock, it was
a good entertaining game.
Pollock summed up the
game by calling it: "An
excellent game; a pleasure
to officiate".
PeeWees are off
to very slow start
After an embarrassing
start, the Wingham PeeWees
finally are showing signs of
• improvement. The team,
which went without a victory
in three exhibition and four
• regular season games, is
starting to settle down and
play stretches, of good
hockey. However, before it
can expect a win, it will have
to put together three periodS
of -aggressive, •ell -tint
hockey.'•
• .• '
' Some of the players are
• giving it their best, •::but
others suffer from-- unin-
spired play. Team morale
still is high, but when it gets
a few goals down the team
appears to -give up rather
than trying harder.
Coach Bill Brown is doing
an excellent job with the
• boys and remains optimistic
about turning ,the team
around.
Playing goal for the Pee-
Wees are Andy Armstrong
and Murray Foxton. ' The
defence is led by Shawn
Fryfogle and Mike Cameron,
with David Heinmiller and
Rob Leachman. Out front the
teem has Paul Edwards; '
Dwayne.. .Scott, .Steve
Le.achman, Jeff Mann,
Jamie Pidtering, Jeff
Pollard and Mark Under-
wood. Don Edgar is the
assistant coach and Bill
McQuiggan is manager.
A MONARCH FORWARD was set up perfectly at the side of the Wingham net, but
Hugh Nichol recovered in time to block the tip -in. However it wasn't enough to keep
Mildmay from downing the Royals for the third time in as many meetings this season.

-league-leading Mildmay•
Monarchs in a real thriller,
before a good crowd Sunday
• at the local arena.
The first 10 minutes of the
game were thrilling end-to-
end hockey. Mildmay hit the
score sheet at 12:44 as' Del
Newman scored on a quick
shot which caught the upper
corner on stick side.
After a three-minute lapse
by the Royals, came three
quick goals by'Mildmay and
they had the upper hand. The
Royals hit pay dirt with one
second left in the period as
Ed Haines jammed one in
from close range on the .
power play. But the Royals
were on the short end of a 4-1
count at the end of the first.
The second period saw a
lot of exciting action, but
little pcoring. The Royals
closed the gap to 4-2 as Rick
Jacklin pounced ona loose
puck off the crease at.17:31.
.But Mildmay got that one
back on the power play at
12:47 with a goal by Bruce
Marshall.
At the end of the second
period, the score was 5-2 for
the Monarchs.
Mildmay struck fast in the
mark. ' The Royals kept
charging and their hard
work payed off as Paul
Cerson fed Jacklin the puck
in the crease area, and his
perfect backhand put it
upstairs at 3 : 27. -
Then at 13;09, Ken Mar-
childon tucked it in with a
sweep from behind the net to
close the gap to 6-4.
However, Mildmay's Don
Newman put leeway with the
final goal of the game at
14:45, and when the buzzer
sounded, Mildmay had a 7-4
win.
WHISTLE STOPS — A
good turnout was on hand for
the game with Mildmay
having • their usual large
following of supporters. With
the exception of a three-
minute let-up in the first, the
Royals outplayed - the
Monarchs as they outshot
them and outhit them.
Both teams picked up 22
minutes in penalties. The
Mildmay powerplay had the
edge, scoring two goals to
the Royals 1.
Jacklin led the Royals'
attack with two goals and
