140401MCOPference gathered
.,imilleftin Road United
% !PON, Windsor, on April 6
and? for their 19th annual
Ille90141.
The theme, 'On Eagles'
Wings', was taken by Rev.
Gordon Hunter of Toronto.
He urged the women to soar
above the trials of the every-
day, and to have a love affair
with Jesus. A new love for
Christ will provide a new
love for one another, and
more love for husbands and
families. He also stated that
anything which 'exalts the
human being is a move
toward the tomorrow of God.
Dr. Greer Anne Ng, also
from Toronto, led in Bible
study on the theme 'They
shall renew their strength'.
On Monday afternoon
Maureen Mayne, of London
Conference Mission officer,
was the moderator of -a panel
which de*lLwith the pro-
blems of the handicapped.
The three main 4peakers
were a father -who had a son
with cerebal palsy, a worker
with the March of Dimes who
suffers from multiple
sclerosis, and the director of
Hiatus. House, a home for
battered women in Windsor.
Their personal experiences
gave everyone a closer look
at some of the problems of
the handicapped.
During the business ses-
sion - several , important
resolutions were passed and
the most urgent of these was
acted upon Tuesday as it
dealth with Bill C-48, The
Canada Oil and Gas Act,
which already has passed
first and second readings in
the House ofCommons.
This bill gives one person,
the minister of energy,
mines and • resources, the
power to grant permits for
exploration and develop-
ment of resources on Crown
lands, which include the
homelands of the northern
native peoples. It also states
that the federal government
will receive all, royalties
from the development on
these lands.
The minister does not have
to consult with the native
people, nor does any
regulatory body such aii„the
National Energy Board have
any review in the interest of
environmental sefety and
protection. Therefore the

Good. Friday will be

church young people and
their leaders conducting the
meaningful pre -Easter
service. Former minister
Rev. Dr. Robert H. Arm-
strong will return for Easter
Sunday's service at 11 a.m.
At the United Church, 13
new members were received
into the church on profession
of faith. Rev. K. Barry
Passmore conducted a
laying -on -of -hands
ceremony during which the
new members received
special blessing from
parents and people in-

their spiritual lives.

Walker and Alistair Young.
They will join the other
members of the
congregation as they par-
ticipate in their first com-
munion at a special Maundy
Thursday Last Supper in the
church at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Passmore, in his Palm
Sunday sermon, referred to
Christians as sheep, easily
led and fickle, as was the
Jerusalem crowd who
cheered Jesus on Palm
Sunday, then crucified Him
five days later. The choir
sang a portion of the cantata;
'Olivet to Calvary', an an-
them entitled 'On the Way to
Jerusalem'.
Church Women tow

aboriginal rights, the pro-
tection of the envirenntet4
and restraints on the
discretionary power given to
the minister under this
legislation.
A letter was sent to Prime
Minister Pierre Trudeau,
with copies to Marc Lalonde,
Joe Clark, Ed Broadbent,
John Roberts and John
Monroe
The conference also
passed the resolution which
urgently petitioned the Can-
