Whitechurch Institute holds annual
Whitechurch — The
Women's Institute held its
annual meeting Wednesday
noon with a pot luck lun-
cheon. Hostesses were Mrs.
Russel Gaunt, Mrs. James
Wilson and Mrs. Rena
Fisher.
President Mrs. Agnes
Farrier opened the meeting
`with the Ode, Creed and
Lord's Prayer. Mrs. William
Rintoul then introduced Mrs.
Lorraine John, who showed
her 'flower arrangements in
dishes, pots and on wicker.
Mrs. Alan Falconer thanked
Mrs. John and presented a
gift.
ROIL call was to be an-
swered by the number of
meetings each member had
attended and ways to combat
racial discrimination; 30
responded.
Mrs. Merle Wilson gave a
report on the district
directors' meeting .held at
Lucknow.
A proposal was brought
forward to raise the branch
fee to $10 and members were
asked to indicate how they
felt about it. Twelve said
they would not be members
if the fee were raised.
Members_ learned that
Bruce County is the ,only
county in Canada with its
own registered tartan. The
Women's institute there has
the right to promote,
produce, sell and licence the
manufacture_ of cloth and
souvenirs of any kind using
the tartan.
A 'bus trip is to be arranged
by Mrs. Johnston Conn and
Mrs. John Bell. Mrs. Nettie
Ross gave a report from the
hall board. The board asks
that the community use the
hall more in order to get the
grant. A new floor covering-
and
overingand new counter togs are to
be put in the kitchen and it is
to be painted. The Institute
has painted the kitchen and
is buying a refrigerator. The
floor of the auditorium also
needs resurfacing.
The group decided to hold
an afternoon euchre, with
each member to be repon-
sible for a table of players
and to provide lunch; this
will take place May 4.
Mrs. Jean McInnes gave
the motto: 'You can't do a
kindness too soon; you never
know how soon it will be too
late.' She emphasized never
put off until tomorrow what
you can do today. Learn to
stop, look and listen, and if a
task is to be done, do it now.
Give flowers now, not when
people are dead.
