Residents of .the com- munity were sorry to learn that John Norman's barn on the farm in Turnberry across from the home place was burned early Saturday morning ^'during • the snowstorm. Oldtimers will remember when this farm was owned by the late Fred Mowbray - who Was a member of Whitechurch United Church. There were ten calves in the barn which fortunately were saved, by John :Norman and his son; Bruce. • Visitors with Mr.;and Mrs. Victor Emerson on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Alex Verbeek, Jamie, Michelle and Julie of Clinton, ' Mrs. Garnet Farrier, Mrs. Ger- trude Tiffin of Wingham and Mr. and Mr's. Tony Straker. . The Young People's Society made rounds in the village on Sunday afternoon singing carols from atop a wagon drawn by a tractor. The residents were happy to see the young people. Mrs. Don RoSsis hostess for WARS Christmas meeting Whitechurch — Mrs. Don. Ross opened her home Wednesday afternoon of last week and welcomed fellow members of the ' Women's Missionary Society of Chalmers Presbyterian Church. Leaders were Mrs. Ross and Mrs. John deBoer. Mrs. deBoer presided for the meeting, opening with a Christmas call to worship. All sang a carol'land Mrs. Roelyn de Baer led in prayer. Mrs, Bill Purdon read scripture from the 12th chapter of St. Matthew's Gospel. 'The Day Christ Was Born' was the title of the meditation given by Mrs. Ross. A carol was sung and a reading, '0 Bethlehem', was given by Mrs. John Bell. The topic, 'The Gloom of Christmas', was . given by - Mrs. John deBoer who closed with a thought for the, day. Mrs. Ross gave a reading, 'Home for Christmas', and conducted an- interesting contest in 'which members were asked to give a closing line of a carol. Mrs. Bell' had the most correct answers. Mrs. Wesley Tiffin gave a reading and everyone sang a carol. The president, Mrs. Roely deBoer, presided for the ..business. Mrs. Purdon read the minutes'' and called the roll, answered by six giving donations for a fruit basket for Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home. It was decided to get extra money for fruit from the Ladies' Aid, Mrs. J. deBoer to look after buying the fruit. The Ladies' Aid meeting was held. A new sink has been installed in the manse basement. It was decided to put new covering on the tables in the church kitchen. Mrs. Purdon closed the meeting with prayer.
