Mr. and Mrs. George Hawkins of North Bay visited last . week with Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw and Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Durnin. Mr. and Mrs. Can Ba Luu visited with Mr. and Mrs. Tony Straker on Sunday. Their son, Wen, was in hospital on the weekend. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Chisholm, Mrs. Jim Shulls and - Mr. and - Mrs. Frank, Greenlas, all of Milton. Mrs. Fred Davis and daughter Dana of LaSalle visited Mrs. Garnet Farrier this past weekend. At the Sunday morning service the choir sang the anthem 'He Is So Precious to Me'. Nelson Lear and Elsie Henderson sang a duet, accompanied by Frank Bissett at the organ. We have had a rather busy week at Huronview, with the Burton -Upon -Trent Youth Choir from Staffordshire, England, entertaining on Saturday afternoon. We have the choir on video and will be able to enjoy them again in the future. Monday the kitchen staff packed a beautiful picnic lunch which we took to Stratford and ate down by the water. After lunch Mabel Jeffrey, Mary McAllister, Eunice Lamb, Elsie Hen- derson, Jean Miller, Gladys Stanlake, Margaret Mc- Queen, Levi Carter, Ruby McVittie, Margaret Mitchell and Margaret Murray to- gether with staff members enjoyed a ride on the ,tour boat. Tuesday provided another opportunity . for Myrtle Jacklin, Lyla Pinner, Elizabeth Black, Julia Stevens, Olive Straugh3an, Della Nesbitt, Marjorie Boyce and Helen Fisher to have a van ride. Norman Dupee, Bill McCurdy, John McTaggart, .Frank McGregor, Andy Doig, Clarence Smith, Ken Skillen, Sadie Mittell, Mary Cornish, Ferne Finlay, Della Overholt, Dolly Waghorn, Della Fahner, 011ie Jervis, Maude Dale, ,;ia., Gcethe and Ann Ritchie enjoyed a picnic lunch at Goderich. Following the lunch we took a ride to the Sugar Rush at Bayfield, where we stopped for a cold drink at the trailer. Thursday afternoon Ethel Hill, Iris Sperling, Tina McNaughton, Mary Ross, Flossie Sholdice, Grace Peck and Doreen Coleman spent time browsing at a gift shop. We also enjoyed the hot scones and 'era which are so famous there. The Summer Workshop in Ministries entertained for the last time this week, as the girls soon will be returning to Ottawa. Huronview welcomes Sadie McBurney, who is from the Wingham area: Ed Walker of Owen Sound and enjoyed a picnic. Mrs. Garnet Farrier at- tended' the wedding of her niece, Colleen Farrier, New Toronto, to Paresh Athtaria in Century United Church. A harpist played the wedding march and during the ceremony the Rexdale, United Church choir sang. The reception was held in the church hall. The bride and groom are honeymooning in England, Scotland, Paris and Switzerland.. Sunday, August 24, at 2:30 pm, a memorial service will be held _ in Langside Cemetery with Rev. John Bell giving the message. Those attending are asked to bring a hymn book and a lawn chair. If the weather is cold or rainy, the service will be held, in the Whitechurch Community Memorial Hall. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Alan • Falconer were at Stratford: Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson were visitors Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Simon deBoer, Miriam and Susan. Carrie and Robin Bell of Walkerton visited a few days last week with their grand- parents', Rev. John and Mrs. Bell, and on Sunday afternoon all went to the cottage at Inverhuron from where the girls returned home on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. B. Taylor and family of Wingham visited her brother, Rev-.- Penny, evTPenny, in Nova Scotia and while . there visited ` Rev. Lloyd Murdock, who at one time was a student minister at Whitechurch and Langside. Lloyd asked the Taylors to call on the Emersons, - who live beside the manse, to -deliver a gift. Jerry Evans and friends from Hamilton visited Saturday with his grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Evans. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott and Karen visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Don Campbell and family of London. Karen , Elliott remained in .) aj ori:loi a week to visit with her sister, Mrs. Paul Laidlaw, Mr. Laidlaw, Michelle and Jason. Birthday wishes to Tony Straker who celebrates his birthday August 25. Wingham girls defeat Clinton's Juveniles The Wingham Juvenile girls defeated Clinton 19-6 ,Sunday evening in Wingham, to wrap up the series and advance in Western Ontario Athletic Association play- offs. The local girls lost the fist game in Wingham, 5-4. They started well, managing three runs during the first inning, but could only add one more during the fourth. Clinton scored one run in the second, one in the fourth and three more during the fifth. The second game, played in Clinton, saw a slower start with Clinton notching one run during the first inning. Wingham got three in the second and two in the fourth. Clinton got three in the fourth and one in the' fifth to tie it up, 5-5. - Wingham got three big runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh while Clinton managed one only in the seventh to end the game at 12-6 for Wingham and tie the series, 1-1. In the final game Wingham scored one run during the first inning and Clinton got .two the second inning with Wingham picking 'up three in the second. Each team -scored one run in the third inning with Clinton getting two runs in the fourth to tie it up, 5-5. Clinton went down one, two, three in the fifth inning while the Wingham girls got their bats going and chalked up 14 runs in their half of the fifth. Clinton scored one run in the seventh to make the final score, Wingham 19, Clinton 6.
