The Royals played hard in
the third period, but came up
with only one goal. Lisle set up
Don Burley to pull to within
two goals of the Lancers, who
got a goal from Greg

at 6-4.
On Sunday the Royals again
opened the scoring when Tom
Black scored from Brnee
Shoff and Neil Bieman. The
Lancers added three goals to

Wingham Legion Pee Wees
opened a best of three Western
Ontario Athletic Association
playoff series with Mitchell
last Tuesday, and came home
with a 5-2 win. The second
game was played in Wingham
on Thursday and ended in a 4-4
draw.
Quinn O'Donohue opened
the scoring for Wingham in
the opening game at 5:56 of
the first, assisted by Doug
McFarlan. Mitchell opened
the second period with two
goals, but its lead was short-
lived as Tim Brown scored
two in a row for Wingham,
with Paul Robinson assisting
the first. Dwayne. Jenkins and
Jason Goodall chipped in
assists on the second.
At 2:23 of the'tiffrd period,..
Brown completed his hat trick
unassisted. Wingham scored
its final goal of the game at
13:23. Goodall picked up the
marker - assisted by Jenkins
and Brown.
The second game of the
series was played in the Lock -
ridge ` Memorial Arena on
Thursday and the teams
fought to a 4-4 draw.
Mitchell took an early lead,
but Wingham tied the score
three minutes later with
McFarlan picking up the goal,
assisted by O'Donohue and
Paul Kenyon. Mitchell then
scored with .less than 40
seconds left in the first frame.
Wingham roared back with
two goals in the second
period; McFarlan assisted by
Kenyon, and Tim Brown
unassisted. Brown increased
Wingham's lead to 4-2 at 11:11
of the third, assisted by Doug
Stephenson.
The locals tried in -vain to
protect their lead, but Mitchell
managed to tie the game,

Royals, who overcame early
sluggishness to carry the play

and bouncing pucks prevented
them froth extending their
season, but it was a, fine effort
by a team which has played
good hockey this season and
provided fine entertainment
for those fans who followed the
team. To those people the
Royals say, "Thank you for
Sour support."

continued to dominate through
the first period, adding two
more unanswered goals.
Theyraised their tally by
four more goals in the second
period, while continuing to
hold Wingham off the score-
board: Wingham was not
holding back offensively, but
couldn't put the puck into the
net: Severat shots which were
right on were stopped by the
excellent -Caledonia goaltend-
er. .
Seeing the approach of
defeat appeared to fire up the
Wingham players enough to
hold back ',the Caledonia of-
fence ' in the third period.
Wingham's lone goal came at
12:19 and was scored by. Bob
Alton, assisted by Mike
-Beattie. �' Fever Caledonia
added yet' another goal in the
final thinute.to,malke the final
score 8-1. •
The second game of the
series was played at
Caledonia Sunday night and
Legion PeeWees were
tournament finalists
The Wingham Legion
PeeWees lost to Seaforth 4-2 in
the finals of the Mitchell Pee
Wee Tournament this past
weekend.
In its opening game
Wingham tied with Harriston
4-4 and won in a shootout. In
the second contest Wingham
shutout Mitchell 3-0.
It its first game on Saturday
morning Wingham met a
strong team from Harriston.
Jeff Cameron started the
scoringr Wingham, assisted
by Paul Robinson. Harriston
tied the score just 41 seconds
later and the period ended tied
1-1.

The third period was all
Harriston's as that team
scored three goals to tie the
game 4-4. The game was then
decided by a shooturtt, better
known as penality shots,
which Wingham won three
goals to one.
For its second game of the
tournament Wingham met
Mitchell and came up with a
strong effort winning 3-0. The
first period was scoreless and
it wasn't until 5:22 of the
second that Quinn O'Donohue
scored, assisted by McFarlan
and Robinson.
McFarlan- widened Wing -
ham's lead to ; two goals
at 3:18 fo the third period,
assisted by Paul Kenyon and
O'Donohue. With two seconds
remaining in the game Doug
Stephenson made the score 3-
0. He was assisted by Dwayne
Jenkins.

Wingham met its old rivals,
Seaforth. Wingham took an

Last week the second
meeting was held at the town
hall Monday night. 'Each girl
brought her macrame string,
three beads and a ring. Mrs.
Bonnie Hutchison and Mrs.
Jacklin demonstrated a half
knot for macrame hangers.
Most of the girls got the hang
of it. The meeting closed at
8:30 p.m.
The first meeting was held

girls were given their books as
they came in. Then they chose

to win the game 4-2, and the
tournament championship.

the tournament.

The "Bedside Knotters",
Belgrave II 4-H club, held
their third meeting, with the 4-
H pledge, at the East
Wawanosh Public School on
Monday, February 25.

who are the defending cham-
pions, will play their . first
game Saturday at 11:40 a.m.

The 16th :annual Wingham
Midget Hockey Tournament
will soon be here! The tour-
nament starts; Friday, March
14th, with three games taking
place that evening. The Wing -
ham Midgets' first game will
be Friday at 8:45 p.m. against
Durham.
This year's tournament will
schedule 32 teams in a 40
game series. The teams ac-
cepted into the tournament
are as follows:
AAA: T.O. Royals, Wind-
sor; Waterloo Major Midgets,
Dearborn, Mich.; Owen Sound
Major, Royal Oaks, Mich.;
Collingwood, Westbloomfield,
Mich.

in tourney
BELMORE — The Inter-
mediate Girls travelled to
Ilderton where they competed
in a tournament. They lost to
Plattsville 1-0 but defeated
Strathroy 4-1 which put them
in consolation where they
defeated ilderton 5-4 in
_overtime + to win the con-
solation prize.
In regular action, the girls
defeated Mitchell 6"1 and
squeaked by. St. Marys 1-0.

1 over Wallace and the Ban-
tams defeated Clifford 6-4.
The Midgets defeated Kurtz-
ville 3-0 in the first game of the

feelings of the Wingham Juvenile team as it dropped the,first game of its playoff series
81 to Caledonia.
IRONMEN ELIMINATED—A shot by Dale Whitfield hit the side of the net in the
playoff game between the Wingham ironmen and Clinton Mustangs last week. The
Mustangs won the game and the series, sidelining the Ironmen for the season.
