The teams bowled just two
games this week, to allow time
for a Christmas party at the
Legion.
Gayle McCarter bowled the
ladies' highPingle of 226 and she
also bowled the 430 ladies' high
double. Frank Burke bowled the
men's high scores with a 291
single and 511 double.
In progressive euchre play at
the party at the Legion hall, the
high lady was Cathy Wickhorst
and the high man was Larry
Pellett.
Low lady was Susan Pegg and
low man was Francis Merkley.
Larry Pellett had the most lone
hands.
Hidden score winners of
turkeys were jean Merkley,
Sheila Kruse, Murray McCarter
and Francis Merkley. Draw
winners were Peter Bauer,
Francis Merkley and Verna
Haugh.
Belmore plans
1979 Festival
BELMORE—Plans were made
for the 1979 Maple Syrup Festival
when the Belmore Chamber of
Commerce held its December
meeting in the community hall.
The Festival will be held April •
14. Prices were set at $3.00 and
$1.75 and bus tours were
discussed.
Jim McKague chaired the
meeting and Ralph Dickson read
the minutes of the last meeting.
Evelyn Dickson gave a report of
the Loto 300 draw. Rick Mc-
Pherson, reporting for minor
hockey, said that all teams
managed to pay their way last
year with a slight profit.
The snowmobile rally was
discussed and the group also
talked about storage of hockey
equipment during the summer.
The Belmore signs are to be
repainted and erected. John
Wilhelm gave the financial
report for the building com-
mittee.
The new directors' policy will,
be discussedat the 'antitiP14'
meeting.

Ironmen lose to Southampton,
fake revenge on the Mohawks
The Wingham Ironmen suf-
ferx1 their second loss of the
season at the hands of the
Southampton Mariners last
week, as Mariner goalie Ken
Doucette had a standout per-
formance between the pipes to
lead his team to a 6-5 victory.
As in the past Doucette was a
steady performer, thwarting
numerous Ironmen attacks. This
time he. had the support of a
much -improved team in front of
him.
The first period ended with the
Ironmen down 2-1 on goals by
Steve Smith and Gord Howard
for the Mariners. Jim McGee
replied for the Ironmen, on a
setup by Ed and Bernie Haines..
In the second period Scott
Rutherford put the Mariners up
by twowhen he banged in the
rebound off an initial shot by
Paul Knecht& at 3:17. Sandy
Henry brought the ,Ironmen back
to within one goal at 8:13 when he
carried the puck the blueline
and blasted 484)(feoter past

The Mariners fought back with
a powerplay goal on the same
penalty just 16 seconds later. Bill
Rolston fired a shot through a
wall of players and the puck
found the mark. Less than a
minute later Smith scored his
'second of the night when he.'

Robert Wharton earned a 100
points over average button this
week. He bowled a 264 game and
his average is 163.
Rocky's Raiders held first
place this week and have 57
points now. Incredible Hulks are
in second place with 53 points and
Bad News Bowlers and Judy's
Japs are tied in third place with
45 points each.
Donna's Dipsticks have 40
points and Star Warriors have 31.

Kevin Carter scored three
goals and assisted on four others,
leading the Ironmen to a 13-4 win
over the Markdale Mohawks
Sunday. Jim McGee scored two,
goals and assisted on four and
Bernie Haines had one goal and
four assists to help in the rout.
Right from the outset the
Ironmen took the play to the
Mohawks as they chalked up
seven goals by the end of the first
'period of play. With 2:31 gone
Gord Kinahan drilled a shot with
the rebound going to Dale
Whitfield who poked it home for
the score. Less than a minute
later Sandy Henry blasted a 30
footer past John Mitchell to 'make
42-0. At 8:04 Bernie Haines made
a centring pass from behind the
net and, after a goalmouth
Scramble, Jim Blackwell banged
in a rebound.
The Ironmen then scored three
goals in a 07 second span. The
first, at 11:11, was by Kinahan
.froni the slot on a setup by
Whitfield. Eight seconds later
Carter scored his first. of three
after Whitfield fed him a pass
from the corner. At 12:48 Bernie
Haine‘fired. the puck,..4ver . the.
downed goalie:
With less than two minutes,
remaining Jim McGee, scored
when he slammed in the rebound
off an initial shot by Carter. With
fOur seconds remaining Bruce
Chapman replied for the
Mohawks when he fired' a shot
from the slot after the Ironmen
were unable to. clear the puck.
The period ended with the
Ironmen up 7-1. '
Fifty-six seconds into the new
period the Mohawks scored again
when Chapman skated in from
the left side and drilled a low shot.

Kinahan was forechecking at
centre when he got control of the
puck, moved around a defender
and blasted a 25 footer past
backup goaltender Doug
Crawford. Barry McMeeken
replied for the Mohawksat 14:03
and the period ended with the
Ironmen leading by a 9-3 score.
McGee opened the scoring in
the 'third at 1:03, but two and a
half minutes later McMeeken
scored his second as he drilled a
hard shot past Rick Deichert,
replacing Taylor in the third. Jay
MacLaurin registered at 10:19
after Scott Wheeler set him up.
Sandy Henry got his second of the
night when Haines centred the
puck from behind the net.
Crawford made the initial. save
but Henry beat him on the second
attempt. Carter finished the
scoring and completed the hat
trick when he blasted a shot from
the point off a faceoff won by
Whitfield.
The line with Ed Haines, Sandy -
Henry, Gord Kinahan,. Kevin
Carter and bale Whitfield ac-
counted foi five goals while
surrendering but one throughout
the contest.
The three stars of the game
were: Jim McGee who now leads
the team scoring race with 19
goals and 18 assists for 37 points;
Kevin Carter, third in the team
race with 13 goals and 14 assists;
and Bernie Haines, second in the
team race with 17 goals and 20
assists.
To date the'team has a win -loss
record of 11-2-2 after 15 starts.
They have scored 127 goals while
yielding 55 to the opposition.
Winner of the 50-50 draw was
Bill Brophy, who received $35.50.
Future games are this Friday,
Dec. 22, when Wingham visits
Meaford at 8:30.$.m.; Saturday,
Dec. 23, when the Ironmen play
the Oldtimers in the Wingham
arena at 8 p.m.; and Tuesday,
Dec. 26, when Wingham' hosts
Fergus at 2:36 p.m.
