Grades 1 & 2 have been busy
preparing for our Christmas
concert which will be held
Wednesday evening. Our
Christmas party will be Friday
afternoon. We wish everyone a
Happy New Year.
Grades 3 & 4—This past week has
been pretty hectic in our room as
we have been preparing for our
concert on Wednesday. We have
made our costumes and art for
our play, 'No Room in the Inn''.
We hope our visitors enjoy the
concert.

for our concert Wednesday night.
Canadettes
in marching
competition
On Tuesday of.. last week
Canadette Director Patti
Robertson and members of the
mothers' executive staged the
Merry Christmas Marcher
competition, splitting all
members of the. group into
divisions according to age and
ability. Many members strutted
their way to awards of first,
second -and third place satin
r ribbons.
Of course the little tots stole the
show as they tried keeping their
little legs high following the
leader and just staying in line.
This event gave parents a' good
look at what their youngsters
have been working on and how
they are trained. After a parade
of the winners Old Saint Nick
paid a visit with treats for all.
Judges for the occasion" were
Tracey MacDonal, Pam
Cameron and Tom Gilmore.

our Christmas party. We are
going to have dinner in our own
classroom. During the afternoon
Santa Claus is going to call
around and give us our presents.

Osborne opwied her home and
was a gracious hostess for the
Christmas meeting of the
Women's Missionary Society of
Chalmers Presbyterian Church,
held Tuesday afternoon of last
week.
Mrs. Victor Emerson opened
the meeting with a Christmas
poem and several Christmas
carols were sung throughout the
worship service, with Mrs.
Osborne pianist. Scripture and
meditations were given, telling
again the story of the first
Christmas, by different members
of the group. Mrs. Emerson told
of the announcement to the
shepherds and the. presentation
of Jesus. Mrs. Osborne read
"This Christmas Night" and
"The Inn" was read by Mrs. Don
Ross. Mrs. Bill Evans led in a
Christmas prayer and Mrs.
Wesley Tiffin told of the visit by
the wise men. Mrs. John deBoer
told about "Many Christmas
Blessings".
The topic, "The Invisible
Christmas Tree", was given by
Mrs. Evans who also dedicated
Three young children were -
presented for baptism when the
morning worship service took
place in St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church on Sunday.
Rev. Dr. Robert H. Armstrong
administered the sacrament to
Darryl Kenneth, trOnn of Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth MacAdam;
Heather Joanne, daughter of Mr.
And Mrs. Robert McGee; and
Matthew Stephen, son Of Mr. and
Mrs. Barry Smith. The St. An-
drew's Bell Ringers provided
special Christmas music
throughout the service.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Higgins
visited Saturday with their aunt,
Mrs. Agnes Frankum, at Pine
Grove Nursing Home. On Sun-
day, Mr. and Mrs.. Higgi ins visited
Mr. and Mrs. David Penner and
family of Listowel and attended
Christ Anglican Church, where
the morning service featured the
Christmas . message in verse,
song and. pageantry.,

Visitors with Mrs. ,Gershom
Johnston during the past week
included Mrs. Gary Black and
Jeffery of Clinton who later left
for Victoria, British Columbia, to
spend Christmas with her
parents, Mr., and Mrs. Kenneth
Johnston. Mr. and' Mrs. Jack
Johnston and Donna of St. Pauls
also visited with his mother last
week.
The family of Ted Whitby
gathered at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Nancy O'Neil, on
Sunday. The occasion was in
honor of Ted's 65th birthday. The
family presented him with a
beautiful gold watch.
Margaret Arbuckle of RR 5,
Wingham was last week awarded
a Huron County Bursary which is
a cash gift designed. to aid
students in furthering ` their
education. The bursary is
awarded ,'to those who have
achieved a B or better average on •
their previous year's studies.
Margaret is currently enrolled in
her second year of Honors
Politics at the University of
Western Ontario, London.
The Couples' Club of St. An-
drew's Presbyterian Church held
its December meeting' at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Beard.
Christmas carols were sung and
each couple contributed a
Christmas reading or poem. Mr.
and Mrs. James Wilson and Mr.
and Mrs. Clare Niergarth were
appointed the nominating
committee. Lunch was served
and a 'social time enjoyed.

the Ladies' Aid met. The offering
was received and the financial
statement given. The meeting
closed with the Lord's Prayer.
'Fete de Rois'

The "Fete de Rois" — the
Feast of the Kings — is an old
French tradition. taking place on
Twelfth Night. It is often cele-
brated by Parisians with tra-
ditional family dinners or a
visit to a restauranto
Customarily. a China bean is
hidden in the meal -cake, the prin-
cipal food. The cake is cut, one
slice per person, and the finder of
the bean shouts. "The King
Drinks."
A toast is proposed and the
bean -finder proclaimed king of
the Twelfth Night celebration.
