Water management projects again formed the largest part of the program. Repair work on the Bluevale dam, expansion of a floodwarning system and completion of a Lake Huron waterfront study were some of the projects outlined. A remedial measures study was undertaken to determine methods of flood damage reduction in the village of Lucknow and detailed design engineering plans are underway for the ListOwel conduit. It was reported -that ap- proximately 40,000 trees -were planted on private land through this year's conservation services program. Requests from local landowners who wish to reforest marginal lands have prompted another increase in the number of trees to be planted in 1979• : An experimental "erosion control 'demonstration was conipletedpt the site of the In- s ternationEd PlovOing Viateh 'in an effort to'Proriikiti di Maitland authority's new erosion control assistance program. Authority members were informed that landowners are to be encouraged to contact the MVCA office for technical advice and financial assistai*e with small inland erosion problems. Conservation area develop- ment completed in 1978 included an enlargement of the pond and swimming area at the Galbraith property near Listowel, devlopment of a maple syrup demonstration at the Maple Keys Sugar Bush between Molesworth and Ethel and campground and roadway improvements at the Falls Reserve near Benmiller. General maintenance was also carried out at the Gorrie, Harriston-Minto, Brussels and Pioneer Conservation areas. Information programs were expanded in 1978 and will un- dergo further improvements in 1979. The authority again offered active conservation education programs'.for youth groups and civic organizations and within the local school system. In new business authority members passed motions to undertake a multi-year ground water study and to proceed with reconstruction of the Gorrie dam in 1979. andlelight service ighlights meeting LJJEVALE—A , Canadian endship candlelight service was the highlight of the Christ- , mas meeting of the Women's Institute.
