GORRIE Murliicipal drains
dominated the diseu s O at the
Dec. i session of Rowlett
Township council.
Andy McBride of Maitland
Engineering Service8 Limited,
Wingham was present at the
meeting to discuss some of the
problems encountered.
Council aiiproved a motion that
the upstream, portion of the
Marietta Street -Wroxeter
municipal, drain be unproved by
placing tile in the ditch that had
been in the original plans.
Council said landowners in the
area had requested the change
and the tile had already been
placed in the ditch.
Mr. 'McBride expressed his
concern on the legality of passing
the motion. He suggested that a
report by his firm be added to the
report already approved by
council.
"What would be the cost of an
additional report?" asked Coun.
Bill Newton.
Mr. McBride said it would cost
around $150. He said the costs
would cover showing the changes
on a plan, the writing of the text,
the preparation of the allowance
schedule and another assessment
schedule.
Coun. Newton said that if a
motion was written in the
township's books, it would be
enough information to indicate in
the future that a change had been
made on the drain.
Mr. McBride said the changes
would cost about $800 with the
township's assessed requested more details on the

Roth Drainage had ordered the
pipe for the drain, but the
township received the bill. On the
bill received from the pipe
company, there was no mention
of 18 inch pipe, but there was an
order for 12 inch pipe, which Mr.
McBride said was not used on the
Weisner drain.
' Deputy Reeve Jack Stafford
will be investigating a section of
the Weisner dram which he
reported to council had 20 to 25
outlets in a small area for one
section of land. He said there
were outlets at approximately
every 50 feet on both sides.
On the Strong -Zimmerman
municipal drain, council had

The engineer's fees for the
Strong -Zimmerman drain totaled
$650after being reduced $200. Mr.
McBride noted that as an
engineer, his hourly wage is $22.
Council tossed around the idea
of hiring a drainage inspector
and Mr. McBride said it would be
a good idea.
Coun. Stewart Douglas com-
mented that when township
employees come in and ask for $6
an hour council has tosay,no, yet
they pay $22 an hour for outside
help.
"For nothing physical for
nothing tangible," said Coun.
Douglas. •
Coun. Douglas and Mr. Mc-
Bride discussed philosophy for a
few minutes, until Mr. McBride
and council agreed it was 'a good
idea they had had the discussion.

new filing system and dispose of
some of the papers that are ac-
cumulating in the office.
It was left up to the discretion
of clerk Ball as to when he could
close the office for a few days to
work on sorting through the files.
Deputy Reeve Stafford suggested
Clerk Ball's suggestions for the
formation of a finance committee
and the moving up of the tax
billing date to have three in one
year were not favored by council.
