Friends and relatives attended to greet the couple and offer their congratulations. Hyndmans celebrate SOth anniversary Last Sunday the family of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hyndman held an open house in Gorrie United Church in honour off their parents' 60th wedding an- niversary. Mr. and Mrs. Hynd- man were married Dec. 19, 1918, at th. home of the bride's pareni �, Mr. and Mrs.. John Gowdy of Howick Township. Rev. N. B. Sinclair of Belmore Presbyterian Church officiated. • Mr. and Mrs. Hyndman farmed for 16 years one mile south of Gorrie and then moved to Wingham, where Mr. Hyndman sold insurance. They returned to Gorrie in 1936 and have resided there for the past 42 years. Mr. Hyndman operated .a trucking and drover business from 1936 until his sons took over the trucking business in 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Hyndman are members of Gorrie United Church, where Mrs. Hyndman led a very active life as a member of the United Church Women. The couple has three children: two sons, Harold and Allan of='. Gorrie, and ' a daughter, Mrs. William (Greta) Bennett of RR 1,' Gorrie, 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. The UCW Unit 2, of which Mrs. Hyndman is a. member, catered to the afternoon tea, which was enjoyed by many friends, neigh- bors and relatives. Gorrie institute enjoys Christmas dinner and talk GORR'IE — The Gorrie Wom- en's Institute enjoyed a delicious smorgasbord dinner at the Gorrie hall at noon Dec. 13. Following the bountiful dinner ;Mrs. Alvin Grainger, club president, welcomed the members their ' guests and special guests Rev. and Mrs. Wesley Ball and the Women's Institute District President, Mrs. John Freeman. There was a short program of carols led by Mrs. Alvin Mundell and Mrs. Jack Ferguson, with Mrs. Wilbur Hogg at the piano. Mrs. Gladstone Edgar recited a poem. Mrs. Edgar introduced Mr. Ball, who spoke on the startling announcements people hear from time to time on radio and television_ He tied the an- nouncement of important events and catastrophes with the an- nouncement of the birth of Jesus Christ and its effect on the world. Following a short business meeting, which included the presentation of the minutes and financial statement by Mrs. Robert Gibson, the roll Was called and members introduced their guests. In answering the roll, members displayed an article given to them as a child at Christmas or told of some special item they still have and treasure. A little child's iron and an old teddy bear were among things displayed. Members' names were drawn and each one present received a gift from a beautifully -decorated Christmas tree. The community activities committee planned the special Christmas meeting. Members of the committee are Mrs. Edgar, Mrs. Hogg and Mrs. Robert, Elschner. Mrs. Wayne Johnson is also a committee member but was Mable to assist. Time of fell ship shared by WI members and guests FORDWICH — Christmas car- ols and songs were featured as the entertainment when the Women's Institute members held their Christmas meeting in the community hall. A smorgasbord supper was served to members and their families, Rev. T. Fleet - ham giving the blessing. Mrs. ?. Klaassen was in charge of ar- rangements for the supper. After the meal, Mrs. L. Wilson introduced Jack Hohenadel, his wife and their four children_ With Mr. Hohenadel accompanying on the guitar, they provided a pleasant half hour of Christmas music, singing together and individually. Songbooks were then distributed and all joined in singing old favorites with Mr. Hohenadel playing guitar ac- companiment. Mrs. William Soper thanked the new neighbors for sharing their talent for the enjoyment of others. She then gave a Christ- mas reading. Mrs. Dick Agla, president, asked guests and members to answer the roll call by telling what they would like for Christmas if they were children. It produced many unexpected answers. Items were brought by the members for the cancer clinic. After the larger tables were removed, card tables were provided for those wishing to play euchre or crokinole. Others enjoyed a time of fellowship with friends and neighbors., CWL euchre ---YFrar eees--Shaw---and—Lan a Kieffer were in charge of the Catholic Women's League euchre party held Dec. 12 in Sacred Heart Parish..fall. Eleven tables were in play during the evening. Itlgh)ady Was Margo Richardson and high man was Margaret Leddy, playing as a man. Low man was Bob Richardson and low lady was Margaret Adams. William Hart, Listowel; Mrs. Harry W. dart and Kenneth of Cambridge (Preston). Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Higgins were their family, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Higgins and family, Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Higgins and family, Erin. Members of the Clarence White family, Toronto, spent the weekend at their home here. Mrs. Bonnie MacDougall, Burlington, is visiting with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Gibson. Mrs. Gibson returned to her home Monday after a lengthy stay in London and Listowel hospitals-. MRS.
