Robert and Margaret Ann spent
Sunday celebrating their Christ-
mas with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
McPhail of Petrolia at their sum-
mer home at Bayfield. ,

held in Knox United Church, Bel -
grave on Sunday, Decemmber 17.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stone-
house of Guelph visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse last
Tuesday.
Mrs. Harry McGuire returned
home on Friday after spending a
couple of weeks with her daugh-
ter and son-in-law,,. Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Cantelon of Tweed. Mr.
and Mrs. Cantelon are spending a
few days with Mrs. McGuire.
Mrs. Deacon was
in her 95th yr.
The death m' occurred in
Huronview, Clinton, on Sunday,
December 10, of Miss Allein
(Lena) Deacon of Wingham. She
was in her 95th year.
Miss Deacon was born January
21, 1884, in East Wawanosh
Township and received her
elementary education at SS No. 9,
East Wawanosh. Her parents
were the late Henry Deacon and.
Jane Chamney. During her early
adult life, Miss Deacon was a
dressmaker.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs.
Alvin (Pearl) Armstrong,
Brussels, and Mrs. Charles
(Helen) Searle, Kincardine; and
one brother, Richard Deacon of
Guelph. She was predeceased by
sisters, Caroline, Euphemia and
Florence; and brothers, William,
Leslie, Roy and David.
The late'Miss Deacon rested at
the R. A. Currie and Son Funeral
Home, Wingham, where funeral
service was conducted Tuesday
at two o'clock by Rev. K. Barry
Passmore of the Wingham
United Church where deceased
was a member. Interment
followed in Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were four
nephews, Bill Searle, R. W.
Deacon, Roy Pattison and Henry
Pattison; and two former neigh-
bors, Graeme Anderson and
Lloyd Montgomery.
As expressions of sympathy,
donations may be made to a
favorite charity.
Gorrie Come Alive dub
enjoys Christmas dinner
GORRIE—The Gorrie Senior
Citizens' Come Alive Club en-
joyed its Christmas dinner,
Tuesday at noon. St. Stephen's
Anglican Church Guild were the
caterers.
Mrs. Martin Scott presided at
the. meeting. Rey. Orrance
Laramie of St. Stephen's was the
guest speaker. He spo$e about
the stage of life ' and challenged
junior and senior citizens to set
goals they could realize. He also
urged them to take pleasure in
their Olden 'years.
The program, of the meeting
followed in the community hall
with a sing -song led by Miss Jean
Sparling and Mrs. Alvin Mundell,
accompanied by Mrs. Bill Hogg
on the piano.
Mrs. John. Strong read the
annual reports of the. Gorrie Ezy
Time , Bowling Club and the
senior citizens expressed their

Normally since no objections
were filed by surrounding lan-
downers municipal board ap-
proval could have been obtained
by last Thursday, 21 days after
circulation of the bylaw. Un-
fortunately in this case the town,
through an error, neglected to
circulate the bylaw to the
required agencies: the county
planning department, the three
surrounding townships and the
ministries of housing and the
environment, each of which also
has 21 days in which to file an
objection.
Mr. Kuyvenhoven has a right to
be upset, Mr. Davidson said, but
he told -the board members the
town could bear responsibility if
it allowed building to continue
before the 'OMB order was
issued•.

Santa Claus' and `It's Beginning
to Look a Lot Like Christmas.'

Mrs. William A. Smith opened
the meeting with a reading en-
titled "Light and Joy". Following
a hymn and prayer it was an-
nounced that the annual
Presbytery meeting will be held
in Wingham on January 15 at 10
a.m. Gorrie has been asked to
extend courtesy greetings. Roll
call was answered with gifts for
the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Gordon Moir and Mrs.
David Lockie cclnducted
devotions •with a "Come -to -
Christmas Message". Scripture
passages from Luke's Gospel
were read by Mrs, Robinson and
Mrs. Glenn Underwood. Mrs.
Alvin Mundell. also assisted.
These were interspersed with
carol singing.
Mrs. Moir told the story of the
hymn, "0 Little Town of
Bethlehem", and following the
singing of a carol, Mrs. Lockie
closed the meeting with prayer..
Out -going preideht Mrs. Smith
expressed her appreciation for
the cooperation and thought-
fulness displayed by the group
throughout the year. Miss Louise
Matthews. the 1979 president,
closed the meeting.

Victoria Hospital, London, on
Saturday, December 9, Joseph
Bennett of Gorrie, in his 81st
year. He was a son of the late
William and Ellen Bennett and
was predeceased by two sisters
and his wife, the former
Mildred McLaughlin. He is
survived by two sons, Bill and
Bruce, both of RR 1, Gorrie;
six grandchildren; 13 great-
grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews. The late Mr.
Bennett rested at the Davidson
Funeral Home, Gorrie, where
complete funeral and com-
mittal service was conducted
Tuesday at two o'clock by Rev.
Orrance Laramie of St.
Stephen's Anglican Church,
Gorrie. Spring interment will
follow in Wroxeter Cemetery.

USA. He was predeceased by a
