Elmer Giles
was former
Howick resident
A former resident of the
Lakelet area, Elmer Giles of
Arkona passed away in the Owen
Sound General and Marine
Hospital on Friday, November 17,
after suffering a severe heart
attack while visiting at his soil's
home in Port Elgin.
Mr. Giles was born on the 13th
concession of Howick Township
in 1905. He farmed on the 12th
concession before moving to
Arkona.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Mildred Baker ; two sons,
Bruce of Port Elgin and Garry of
Toronto; and four grandchildren.
There is one sister, Mrs. ,T. A.
(Sandy) Murray of Howick
Township. He was predeceased
by one brother, William.
The late Elmer Giles rested at
the Gilpin Funeral Home,
Thedford, where funeral service
was -held Monday at two o'clock.
Interment followed in Arkona
Cemetery.

Mrs. R. Coultes was
lifelong area resident
Mrs. Robert Coultes of Bel -
gra, 'e passed away Saturday,
November 18, at the Wingham
and District Hospital following a
brief illness. She was in her 72nd
year.
The former Mary Ellen Stone-
house, Mrs. Coultes was born in
Belgrave in 1907. Her parents
were the late Robert and Agnes
Stonehouse. She received her ele-
mentary education at the Bel -
grave Public School and fol-
lowing her marriage to Mr.
Coultes, in Knox United Church
in that village, they farmed on
the `third concession of Morris
until 1966- when, on retirement,
they went to Belgrave to reside.
Mrs. Coultes was a faithful
member of Knox United Church,
Belgrave, and the United Church
Women.
She leaves to mourn her death,
her husband; two sons, William
Thomas Nickel
dies in hospital
The death occurred at the
Wingham and District Hospital
on Sunday, November 19, of
Thomas Nickel of RR 2, Tees -
water. He was in his 86th year
and death followed a brief illness.
Mr. Nickel was born in • Bel -
more and was a son of the' late
Robert Nickel and Margaret
Hamilton. He was predeceased
by his wife, the former Emma
Isobel Galbraith. Two brothers
and two sisters also predeceased
him.
He is survived by one daughter,
Mrs. Lorne (Lorraine) Edwards,
RR 2, Teeswater; five grandchil-
dren, Mrs, Ken (Sharon) Harri-
son, Honeywood, Tom of Pet-
rolia, Mrs. L. (Carol)- Masse,
Brampton, Carl of London and
Paul, RR 2, Teeswater. There are
six great-grandchildren and two
brothers, Robert of/Palmerston
and Russell of Fordwich.
The- late Mr. Nickel rested at
the MacPherson Memorial
Chapel, Teeswater, where Rev.
Arnold Proud conducted funeral
service Tuesday at two o'clock.
Interment followed in Wingham
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Ed-
wards, Bill Caslick, Joe King,
Ken Dowling, Ray Cardy and
Gary Falconer. Floral tributes
were carried by Lorne Mc-
Allister, Frank Renwick and
Alan MacRae
and Glenn, both of Morris Town-
ship; nine grandchildren; two
sisters, Mrs. Harry (Carrie) Mc-
Guire, Belgrave, and Mrs. Russel
(Agnes) Walker, Goderich; and
one brother, Lewis Stonehouse,
Belgrave. She was predeceased
by three brothers, Gordon,
formerly of Arizona, Norman
(London) and Stewart (Bel -
grave).
The late Mrs. Coolies rested at
the S. J. Walker Funeral Home
where friends paid respects Mon-
day afternoon and evening.
Funeral service was conducted
at two o'clock. Tuesday in Knox
United Church, Belgrave, by
Rev. John G. Roberts. Interment
followed in Brandon Cemetery,
Belgrave.
Pallbearers were six nephews,
Kenneth Mitchell, Snelgrove,
Dale Mitchell, Scarborough,
Jack Mitchell, Rothsay, Bruce
MacDonald and Jack Walker of
Wingham, Sam Pletch, Belgrave.
Her floral tributes were carried
by five of her grandchildren,
Janice, Joanne, Karen, Paul and
Steven Coultes.
As expressions of sympathy,
memorial donations were made
to the Knox United Church, Bel -
grave.

Earl Fitch and. Mac Inglis have
returned from Western Canada.
A number of residents from the
Belmore community attended
the Remembrance Day service in
Fordwich on the llth and later
attended the Legion banquet,
followed by a progressive euchre
party.
Guest speaker at the Beimore
United Church last Sunday was
Rev. Hyongky Peak of Korea.
Mr. Peak delivered his sermon in
Korean while Rev. Hakyoo Park,
minister of the church, trans-
lated his words into English.
The annual meeting of the
arena board was held last week.
Minutes were read by Mrs. Mac
Eadie. Dennis O'Malley was
named a new member of the
•board. The members of the hall
committee are John Wilhelm,
Bill Mulvey, Jim Renwick and
Mrs. George Kieffer. The ice
