OBITUARY
BRYANS—Passed away at the
Callander Nursing Home,
Brussels, on Monday, Decem-
ber 19, Mrs. James Alexander
Bryans of Brussels, in her 80th
year. Mrs. Bryan ., was the
former Ella Mae Hopper and
formerly resided in Wingham.
She is survived by one daugh-
ter, Mrs. Idella Wilson, Brus-
sels; one son, Charles Bryans,
Kitchener; four grandchildren,
Linda, Andrew, Paul and Greg
Wilson. Also surviving are, two
sister's, Mrs.. Hugh (Luella)
Carmichael, Willowdale, and
Mrs. Finlay (Birdena) McCal-
lum, Guelph. She was 'pre-
deceased by her husband and
five brothers, William,.
Charles, Robert, ' Van and
Frank. The late Mrs. Bryans
rested at the M. L. Watts Fun-
eral Home, Brussels, where
service was conducted Wed-
nesday, December 21, at two.
o'clock. Temporary entomb-
ment followed in Brussels
Cemetery Chapel.

Howard J. Irwin
was war veteran
A longtime resident of this area
and veteran of {'the Seeond World
War, Howard John Irwin of 323
Edward Street, Wingham, died in
University Hospital, London, on
Thursday, December 15, follow-
ing a brief illness. He was in his
61st year.
Howard Irwin was a son of the
late J. Thomas Irwin and Olive
Bates and was born in East
Wawanosh Township on June 22,
1917. He received his education in
East Wawanosh and worked on
road construction until his retire-
ment in 1973. He joined the Elgin
Regiment in 1940 and transferred
to the 4th L.A.A. in 1941. He.
served overseas in Italy, Sicily,
France, Holland and Germany,
from 1941 until 1945.
He was a member of the Wing -
ham United Church and the
Royal Canadian Legion, Wing -
ham Branch 180.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy
whom he married in London on
December 1, 1948; two daughters,
Mrs. Douglas (Judy) Heffer, RR
5, Wingham, and Mrs. Neil
(Jean) Herman, Stratford; and
one son, Thomas of Belgrave.
There are four grandchildren;
two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Verna)
Wilson, Toronto, and Mrs. James
(Hazel) Campbell, Wingham;
and two sons, Gordon Irwin, To-
ronto, and William Irwin, Lon-
don.
He was predeceased in 1972 by
one sister, Mrs. Hugh (Margaret)
Thompsongformerly of Seaforth.
The late Mr. Irwin rested at the
R. A. Currie and Son Funeral
Home where service was con-
ducted Saturday, December 17,
at two o'clock by Rev. K. Barry
Passmore. Interment followed in
Wingham Cemetery. •
Pallbearers were Harold Kerr,
Allan Cranston, Bill Dickert,
Lawrence Linton, Allan Bard 'and
Ken Collison. Brill Campbell Arid
Reuben Appleby carried floral
tributes. •
As expressions 'of sympathy,
memorial donations may be
made to the Huron -Perth Ltmg
Association.
