Thanks from us to you: Sacred Heart concert features songs, dances Children's eyes sparkled as the kindergarten ' to grade four students performed in their annual Christmas concert at Sacred Heart Separate school last Wednesday evening. Many of the sparkling eyes belonged to the performers. Older students, parents and board 'of education officials watched the concert and sang Christmas carols themselves. The concert included recita- tions by Ray. Grubb, Carrie Ann Taylor, Tammy Kieffer and Marlene Albers, all grade two student's. All students participating in the concert gathered at the start of. the concert to sing "Suzy Snow- flake" and "Here Comes Santa Claus": The kindergarten class per- formed some rhythm band selec- tions, and made one of the louder highlights of the concerts: The youngsters played several tunes on rudimentary musical instru- ments. Two grade one groups pranced around the floor for a couple of square dances shortly before the kindergarten class. performed 'a singing game called "Oats, Peas, Beans and Barley". Grade two students did most of the work in the last half of the concert. The second grade students did singing dances to the tunes of "Captain Jinks" and "The Grand Old Duke of York". Grades three and four finished with a play called "The Story of Mary", based on the biblical story of the birth of Christ. The cast ihcluded students dressed as sheep!, donkeys and wise men. The two classes also combined to sing "Sleep My Savior Sleep", and "The Holy Child" and "Winter Wonderland", The concert closed with all the students singing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". Christmas weekend is safe and quiet The Christmas holiday week- end was an exceptionally safe and quiet one with few accidents or other incidents,. Wingham town police and officers at the OPP detachment report. No fires were reported over the weekend. Apart from a tragic accident which took the life of Mrs. Roy Cousins of Brussels last Thurs- day evening, there were only two accidents over the holiday week- end and no other injuries, Sgt. Len George of the OPP reported, Wingham Police Chief Robert Wittig reported only a couple of minor accidents, "nothing serious", and a very quiet week- end overall. He said the snow might have kept people from driving very much. Wingham and District Hospital reported two minor injuries in snowmobile accidents. John Morrison of Wingham injured his thumb while apparently being pulled on a toboggan behind a snowmobile Dec. 24 and Gordon MacDonald of RR 4, Kincardine, was apparently operating his snowmobile Dec. 21 when he fell off, injuring his elbow. Both were released from hospital following treatment. SANTA CLAUS visited Sacred Heart Separate School last Thursday to make sure the children were prepared for Christmas. Santa is shown with Jason Steffler, who doesn't go to school yet, Brenda Richey, and Louise Kumprey; both grade four students. The students had parties Thursday afternoon, with lots of candies and toys. CHRISTMAS CAROLS sung by the kindergarten to grade four students at Sacred Heart School were accompanied by Mrs. Janet Day, who played the piano. Students, parents and school board officials were present to see the concert. Christmas visitors —Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Caslick were Mr. and Mrs. Tim Collyer of Napanee; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Caslick and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Caslick, all of London; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Caslick, Sarnia. Spending the Christmas holi- day weekend with Mrs. P. Stain- ton and Barbara were Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Stainton and Blair of Agincourt. —Sid Crump of Sarnia ; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crump, Rod and Steve of Kitchener; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Crump and Mike, Lucknow, visited Mrs. Jean Crump over the holiday weekend. —Mr. and Mrs. Harley Merkley and family, Ridgetown; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Merkley and family, Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Bennett, Joan and Art and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Bennett and Tracey, all of Walton; Mr. and Mrs. Ernie .Merkley, Wingham, were holiday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. William Merkley, Vic - SEVERAL RECITATIONS were given at the Sacred Heart Separate School Christmas concert last Wednesday. Tuesday visitors at the same home were Mr. and Mrs.. Jim Johnston and Paul of Listowel, Ruth Ann and Carol Ann of Toronto. —Mr. and Mrs. Don Whitfield:, of Sault Ste. Marie were Christ- mas guests of Mr. and Mrs, George Michie at their Belgrave home. -Celebrating Christmas at the home of their mother, Mrs. Alex Skinn, were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Skinn and family, Hanover; Mr. and Mrs. BW Skinn, Listowel; Mr. and Mrs. Alan Weishar, Barrie, Miss Barbara Skinn, St. Anthony, Newfoundland; and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Skinn and family of town.
