Sacred Heart
concert features
songs, dances
Children's eyes sparkled as the
kindergarten ' to grade four
students performed in their
annual Christmas concert at
Sacred Heart Separate school
last Wednesday evening.
Many of the sparkling eyes
belonged to the performers.
Older students, parents and
board 'of education officials
watched the concert and sang
Christmas carols themselves.
The concert included recita-
tions by Ray. Grubb, Carrie Ann
Taylor, Tammy Kieffer and
Marlene Albers, all grade two
student's.
All students participating in the
concert gathered at the start of.
the concert to sing "Suzy Snow-
flake" and "Here Comes Santa
Claus":
The kindergarten class per-
formed some rhythm band selec-
tions, and made one of the louder
highlights of the concerts: The
youngsters played several tunes
on rudimentary musical instru-
ments.
Two grade one groups pranced
around the floor for a couple of
square dances shortly before the
kindergarten class. performed 'a
singing game called "Oats, Peas,
Beans and Barley".
Grade two students did most of
the work in the last half of the
concert.
The second grade students did
singing dances to the tunes of
"Captain Jinks" and "The Grand
Old Duke of York".
Grades three and four finished
with a play called "The Story of
Mary", based on the biblical
story of the birth of Christ. The
cast ihcluded students dressed as
sheep!, donkeys and wise men.
The two classes also combined to
sing "Sleep My Savior Sleep",
and "The Holy Child" and
"Winter Wonderland",
The concert closed with all the
students singing "We Wish You A
Merry Christmas".
Christmas weekend
is safe and quiet
The Christmas holiday week-
end was an exceptionally safe
and quiet one with few accidents
or other incidents,. Wingham
town police and officers at the
OPP detachment report. No fires
were reported over the weekend.
Apart from a tragic accident
which took the life of Mrs. Roy
Cousins of Brussels last Thurs-
day evening, there were only two
accidents over the holiday week-
end and no other injuries, Sgt.
Len George of the OPP reported,
Wingham Police Chief Robert
Wittig reported only a couple of
minor accidents, "nothing
serious", and a very quiet week-
end overall. He said the snow
might have kept people from
driving very much.
Wingham and District Hospital
reported two minor injuries in
snowmobile accidents. John
Morrison of Wingham injured his
thumb while apparently being
pulled on a toboggan behind a
snowmobile Dec. 24 and Gordon
MacDonald of RR 4, Kincardine,

snowmobile Dec. 21 when he fell
off, injuring his elbow. Both were
released from hospital following
