OBITUARY
COOK—Passed away at the
Wingham and District Hospital
on Oct. 2, Stanley Cook of
Belgrave ip his 84th year. He is
survived by one daughter, Mrs.
Bruce (Gwen) Marshall of
London; fourteen grandchil-
dren; two great grandchildren
and one brother, Lewis Cook of
Belgrave. He was predeceased
by his'wife, the former Violet
Buchanan, and one son, Jack.
Funeral service was held Tues-
day at 2 p.m. at the S. J. Walker
Funeral Home, Wingham, with
interment following in Brandon
Cemetery, Belgrave. Memorial
donations to the Canadian
Cancer Society are being
acknowledged by the family as
expressions of sympathy.

Shower held
for Judy Cook
BELGRAVE — A community
bridal shower was held for Miss
Judy Cook in the United Church
basement on September 28th. The
program included a piano solo by
Marion Taylor, reading by Mrs.
William Fenton and contests by
Mrs. Gerald McDowell and Mrs.
Murray Scott.
The bride -elect was then called
to a seat of honor and Mrs. Allan
Dunbar read the address which
was composed by Mrs. Florence
Coultes. Mrs. Eldon Cook,
mother of the bride, and Mr,s.
Robert McLean, mother of the
groom assisted Judy in opening
many lovely and useful gifts,
after which Judy thanked every-
one.
Lunch was served and a social
hour followed.
Brother dies in Listowel
William R. Bell, manager of
the Listowel Public Utilities
Commission, died unexpectedly
Sunday morning, Oct. 2, at his
residence at 1 McLaren Avenue
north here: He was 61 years old.
Mr. Bell was on the job on
Saturday supervising work when
a tree on Elma Street west fell
over power lines, blacking out
about half the town for nearly
five hours. He was found dead at
home the next morning.
He was appointed manager of
the Listowel PUC in the spring of
1971, succeeding Robert Moogk.
Before coming to. Listowel he
owned an electrical business in
Harriston for 25 years. He was
born at Drew in Minto Township
on Dec. 12, 1915.
Mr. Bell was a member of the
Royal Canadian Legion, Branch
296, Harriston. During the Second
World War he served with the
Royal Canadian Air Force and
was stationed in the United King-
dom.
He was a member of Harriston
United Church and a member of
Harriston Masonic Lodge No. 262.
He had been an active member of
the' now defunct Queen's Bush
Chorus of Listowel, a barbershop
quartet and in later years sang
with quartets in the Listowel and
Harriston areas. -
William Bell is survived by his
mother, Mrs. David (Gertrude)
Bell of Harriston; his wife, the
former Mary Jane Brown; four
daughters, Mrs. Richard (Joan)
Kruspe of Etobicoke, Karen of
Whitby, Kathy of Listowel and
Marilyn of London; three
brothers, Elmer of Listowel.
Arthur of Fenelon Falls,'Edwin of
Mount Elgin; three sisters, Mrs.
Harry (Ethel) Gerrie of Wing -
ham., Mrs. Harold (Bernice)
Newman of Harriston and Mrs.
William (Betty) Warden of Nia-
g.ara Falls.
The body rested at the Hardy
Funeral Home in Harriston until
Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. when
the funeral was held. Burial
followed in the Harriston Ceme-
tery. Members of Listowel Town
Council and the Listowel PUC
were in attendance at the funeral.
The Harriston branch of the
Royal Canadian Legion held a
memorial service at the funeral
home on Tuesday, Ott. 4 at 8:30
p.m.
Pallbearers for the late Mr.
Bell were Ron Fallis, Paul Kreu-
ter, Joe Marshall and Howard
Greenwood, all of Listowel, and
Don MacDougall and Don Gibson
of Harriston.

Injuries minor in
Sunday mishaps
Two Dundalk residents and a
Wingham woman were injured
Sunday in a collision on Highway
86 east of Highway 4. Mrs. James
G. Mizen and Sandra Mizen of 13R
3, Dundalk, and Katherine Dolgos
of Wingham received minor in-
juries in the collision between
Mr. Mizen and Brian R. Martyn
of RR 2, Wingham. They were
treated at Wingham hospital and
released.
George A. Sande of RR 2, Tees -
water, was slightly injured when
he was involved in a collision with
Kenneth O. Tervitt of Wingham
on Highway 4 north of Wingham
in Turnberry Township. This
accident also occurred Sunday.
Couple presented
BELGRAVE — Barbara and
Keith Black, newlyweds, were
honored by friends and neighbors
at a dance in the Institute Hall on
September 17. Music for dancing
was provided by the Country
Starlites.
At intermission the newlyweds
were called to the front where
Clifford Coultes read the address
and they were presented with a
gift of money. Both Barbara and
Keith made fitting replies.
