Toronto on Thursday, June 16,
George James Ferguson of
Dunedin. He was the dear hus-
band of Bernice Davison; dear
father of John, Toronto; broth-
er of Mrs. William (Mabel) Mil-
ler of Wingham. He was born in
East Wawanosh Township, at-
tended Belgrave Public School
and Wingham High School and
was a graduate of York Univer-
sity. He was a former president
of Willards Chocolates. The
late Mr. Ferguson rested at the
Dods and McNair Funeral
Horne, Orangeville, where
service was conducted Satur-
day at two o'clock. Interment
followed in Forest Lawn Cem-
etery.

ton of Minnie Street, Wingham,
passed away WedResdayt, June
15, at the Wingham 'and District
Hospital in his 86th year.
Born in Culross, Perry Pen -
Friends mourn
Melvin Phippen
A native of Wingham, Melvin
E. Phippen, died in Toronto on
May 15 and funeral services were
conducted in Yorkminster Park
Baptist Church.
After receiving his education
here Mr. Phippen entered the
Bank of Commerce in Wingharn
and after being posted to several
other branches of the same bank
he was transferred to its audit
department. Later he acted as a
bank inspector and instructor in
the bank's training centre.
Mr. Phippem had been
manager of two Toronto city
branches before assuming
managership of the City Hall
branch, where he was serving
until the time of his death.
A lifelong church member, he
was a deacon and member of the
finance committee of York-
minster Park Church and a
former Bible class leader in the
Peoples Church, Toronto.
He spent four years in the
Army during World War II.
He leaves his wife, the former
Mary Milne, a daughter, Mary;
three sisters and a brother, Mrs.
Cyril (Ada) Berry, Mrs. Ed
(Mildred) McDougall, Mrs.
Clarence (Dorothy) Hunking and
George Phippen.
Staff members who served in
the local bank when Mr. Phippen
was here recall him as one of the
finest young men of their
acquaintance, a reputation which
he continued to earn for himself
throughout his life. The minister
of his church in ,Toronto delivered
a touchingly sincere eulogy to a
man whom he described as a mean
whose Christian faith was not an
"addendum" tacked onto a full
and demanding -life, but a person
to whom his• faith came first. "He
was a noble ambassador of the
Church," said the speaker,..
"Good banking was part of this •
man's witness to his faith."
•
'nington ' was a son of the late
Jabez Pennington and Maria
Braden. He farmed all his life in
Culross Township and retired to
Wingham in 1970. He was a
veteran of World War I.
Mr. Pennington was a member
of Teeswater Masonic Lodge No.
276 which he joined 57 years ago.
He was also a member of the
Wingham United Church.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Myra Taylor of Kinloss
Township, whom he married in
Belgrave on September 1, 1926;
two sons, Russel Ernest of Lon-
don and William Harold, Toron-
to; one daughter, Mrs. Wallace
(Hazel Jean) Bell, Brussels; and
six grandchildren. He was pre-
deceased by sisters and brothers
and one grandson, John Gregory,
in 1972.
The late Perry Pennington
rested at the S. J. Walker Funeral
Home, Wingham, where funeral
service was conducted Saturday
at two o'clock by Rev. K. Barry
Passmore. Interment followed in
Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bob Craw-
ford, Bruce McLean, Frank
Collar, E. S. Copeland, Wes Sim-
mons_ and Carman Thompson.
Flower bearers were Everett
Pennington, Roy Pennington,
Lloyd Pennington and Wilf Ben-
stead.
Baby daughter
dies in hospital
A funeral was held June 21 for
the infant daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Gary Foxton, RR 2, Wing -
ham. Tanya Marie Lynn Foxton,
born May 2, 1977, Wingham died
June 20 at the War Memorial
Children's Hospital, London.
She is survived by one sister

den of RR 3, Goderich. Rev.
Robert J. Crocker officiated at
the service and interment fol-
lowed in Dungannon Cemetery.

ham, Fred Crawford, Douglas
Young and Gordon Dougherty.

Mrs. Hayden died Thursday,
June 16, at Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital. The former
Irene Carr, she was born in Wing -
1111111, a d lighter of the' late "Wil-
liam Johnston and Eliza Anne
Carr. She received her education
at the Dungannon Public School
and the Wingham High School.
An active member of Christ
Church, Port Albert, she be-
longed to the Anglican Church
Women and taught Sunday
School for many years.
Surviving are her husband Car-
man whom she married August 3,
1935, in Dungannon; two sons,
William and James, both of Ash-
field Township; and three grand-
children. There are two sisters
and two brothers, Miss Iva Carr,
Mrs. Lloyd (Hazel) McWhinney,
Harry Carr and Edgar Carr, all
of West Wawanosh Township.
