HUSBAND AND WIFE GRADUATE—John and Luanne
Bakelaar graduated May 26, 1977 from the University of
Waterloo with their Bachelor of Science Degrees, John in
(Hon.) Kinesiology and Luanne in (Hon.) Health Studies
(Co-operative program). Luanne is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Gerry Lavergne of- Bowmanville, and received her
elementary education in Wingham. In September they plan
to further their education.

Wattam exchanged marriage
vows. Rev. Albeit J. Cook, Luck -
now, officiated at the double -ring
ceremoney. .
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Hackett, RR 7,
Lucknow, and Mr. and Mrs. Nor-
man Wattam, RR'4, Wingham,,
are the parents of the groom.
Tall white candelabra with
white tapers, red silk roses and
white satin bows with long
streamers graced the front of the
church on each side of the com-
munion table. Large white satin
bows with white doves marked
the guest pews.
Mrs. Kenneth Alton, RIV 7,
Lucknow, played organ selec-
tions prior to the ceremony and
the processional hymn, "Praise,
My Soul, the King of Heaven".
She also accompanied the soloist,
Miss Mary Anne Alton, who sang
"O° Promise Me" before the cere-
mony and "0 Day of Gladness"
during the signing of the register.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride chose a formal
gown of imported Italian silk
matte jersey. It was styled with
tucked bodice with an insertion of
sheer appliqued with daisy lace
and embroidered with seed
pearls. The . waistline was en-
hanced with a fine line of seed
pearls and the high collar and
straight sleeves were also appli-
qued with daisies and seed
pearls: The fullness in back fell
into a beautiful chapel train. A
bridal cap of daisy lace and
pearls held her three -tiered silk
illusion veil and she carried B.
bouquet of red silk roses and lily -
of -the -valley, encircled by wide '
ruffled lace with long flowing
white streamers.
Maid of honor was Miss Susan
Brooks of Lucknow, friend of the
bride: She wore a floor -length
princess -style pale yellow poly-
ester cotton . gown with a high
mandarin collar opening into a V
and elbow -length puffed sleeves.
A large yellow sheer picture hat.
with rippled brim and yellow
satin band and bowcomplement-
ed her •dress..She carried a ruf-
fled white lace fan with light and
dark pink silk roses, small white
daisies and flowing white satin
streamers.
Miss Donna Hackett, Lucknow,
sister of the bride, and Miss Janet
Haines, Wingham, friend of. the
bride, were bridesmaids. Their
gowns, hats and flowers were the
same as those of the maid of
Little Theresa Kenyon, Wing -
ham, friend of the bride, was
flower girl. She wore a floor -
length white polyester dress with
puffed sleeves trimmed with yel-
low lace and yellow satin sash. A
white sheer hat with rippled brim
and yellow trim completed her
ensemble. She carried a nosegay
of pink silk roses encircled by
ruffled lace and long white satin
streamers.
She was escorted by Master
Paul Kenyon, Wingham, friend of
the bride and groom, who carried
.,.the rings on a white lace pillow
trimmed with pink roses and
white streamers.
Groomsman was Ralph
Thompson, ,Teeswater, friend of
the groom. Ushers were Ronald
Wattam, brother of the groom,
and Michael Hackett, brother of
the bride. The groom wore a
beige tuxedo with darker velvet
trim, ruffled shirt and red rose
boutonniere. The ring -bearer was
similarly attired. The groom's
attendants wore brown tuxedoes
with dark brown velvet trim, Tuff -
fled shirts and pink boutonnieres.
Following the wedding, the
guests viewed gifts at the bride's,
home before proceeding to the
wedding dinner held in the Luck -
now Legion Hall. The brides
table was centred with a three -
tiered wedding cake topped with
red roses and white doves. Pink
and white bells and streamers
decorated the hall and guest
tables were centred with bud
vases of white and pink daisies
and fern.
The bride's mother received
the guests in a floor -length gown
of mint green polyester jersey
styled with belted front and flow-
ing back. Her corsage was pink
roses. The, grooni's mother chose
a red silk polyester floor -length
gown with empire waistline and
soft cape sleeves. Her corsage
was green and white tinted roses.
Barry Hackett, uncle of the bride,
was master of ceremonies.
The bride and groom were
happy to have with them for this•
• happy occasion, their five living
grandparents: Mr. and., Mrs.
Thomas Hackett, Lucknow; Mrs.
W. J. Cumming, Kitchener; and
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wattam,
.Shelburne.
A reception 'dance, followed to
the music of the Music Makers.
The bride chose to travel in a
floor -length gown of powder blue.
polyester topped with a long-•
sleeved hooded short fitted jac-
ket. Her corsage was red roses.
Mr. and Mrs. Barry Hackett,

Postmistress of
10- years retires
Mrs. Elsie Smith, Bluevale is
retiring as postmistress of. the
Bluevale post office after work-
ing there for 42 years. Marie
Walker of RR 4, Wingham, takes
over the position as of this week.
Mrs. Smith and her husband,
the late Alvin Smith, ran the post
office from 1935 until 1967, when
Mrs. Smith took over upon her
husband's retirement.

enhance marriage ceremony
Bouquets of lilacs and lighted
tapers in candelabra surrounded
the altar of the Wingham United
Church on' Saturday evening,
May 21, when Jean Cheryl Mc-
Vittie of Wingham walked down
the aisle to her waiting groom,
Thomas Francis Eckert of RR 1,
Dublin. Mrs. Gordon Davidson of
Wingham played suitable wed-
ding music before and during the
ceremony. As the bridal party
reached the altar, Miss Lavonne
Ballagh Sang "The Wedding
Prayer". During the ceremony
she sang The Lord's Prayer and
during the signing of the register,
"Walk Hand .in Hand" was sung.
The bride i& the daughter, of
.Mrs. Margaret McVittie of Wing -
ham and the late Mel McVittie.
The groom is the son of Mrs.
Mary Eckert, Seaforth, and
the late Joseph Eckert.
Officiating at the ceremony
were Rev. Barry Passmore of the

floor -length gown of champagne
colored polyester. It was styled
with empire waistline and at-
tached, train and was topped with
an 'elbow -length cape. She
carried a bride's Bible topped
with a mauve orchid.
Matron of honor, Mrs. Anne'
Cottel of Crediton, wore a mint
green empire style gown with
matching cape. She wore match-
ing rosebuds in her hair and
carried a basket of yellow and
pink Talisman roses, white daisy
mums and lily -of -the -valley:
In similar ensembles were the
'bridesmaids, Mrs. Karen Mc-
Vittie, sister-in-law of the bride,
of Auburn and Miss Marie
Barrie, cousin of the bride, of
Blyth. Karen's dress was yellow,
and Marie wore peach.
Miss Carolyn Eckert, niece of
the groom, of Maryhill, wore a
long dress similar ,in style and
color to the bridal gown. She also
carried a basket of Talisman
roses, white daisy mums and lily -
of -the -valley.
Peter Eckert of Maryhill was
his brother's best man and guests
were usheered by Jack Horan,
friend of the groom, of RR 4, Wal-
ton, and Roger Barrie, cousin of
the bride, of Blyth, Scott McVittie
of Auburn, the bride's nephew,
was ring bearer.
Following the ceremony, a re-
ception took place at Blyth Com-
munity Centre. The bride's
mother wore a pink trevira floor -
length gown with matching
jacket, white accessories ' and a
corsage of yellow Sweetheart
roses.
The groom's mother chose a
floor -length gown of blue -
polyester crepe with a matching
blue floral floor -length coat. Her
accessories were white and she
wore pink Sweetheart roses.
For honeymooning in England,
Scotland and Wales, the bride
wore a green and white polyester
sundress with matching jacket,
white accessories and an orchid
corsage.
Mr. and Mrs. Eckert will reside
Harvey McDowell at RR 1, Dublin.
